Disenchant vs Wear / Tear

So in my modern deck (Mardi Gras) I run 2 Disenchant in the sideboard. But now that Wear / Tear exists, I am not sure if I should replace it or not.

It seems like Wear / Tear gives you more flexible options, and it is all at instant speed. What do you guys think?

Well you can break it down like this:

They have an artifact on the field:

  • Disenchant costs two mana (1W), instant speed.
  • Wear costs two mana(1R), instant speed.

They have an enchantment on the field:

  • Disenchant costs two mana (1W), instant speed.
  • Tear costs one mana, instant speed.

They have both an artifact and an enchantment on the field:

  • Disenchant targets one, costs two mana (1W), instant speed.
  • Wear / Tear targets both, costs three mana (1RP), instant speed.

I would say Wear / Tear is superior, atleast when comparing these two cards. There might be a lot of other options however that surpass both but I'm not sure.

That's more or less my reasoning, I just wanted to know if there was something I am overlooking because I'm still seeing Disenchant in sideboards of decks like mine instead of Wear / Tear .

It would also make me sad to replace my pretty full art Disenchant .

If you're playing red/white and you want the best between these two cards, you're playing wear/tear. Not only is it more versatile but if you pay rw1 you can blow up an enchant and an artifact in one go.

I just realized there's another tiny advantage with Wear/Tear. The opponent has less chance to be able to switch the target! (hey I said tiny advantage lolll).

If you cast Disenchant on an enchantment, but you have an artifact in play, your opponent can cast something like Swerve to change the target to your artifact. If you cast Tear on the enchantment, the opponent can't make it target your artifact. He would need you to also have an enchantment.

Anyway, not sure if that would ever happen. Loll

I think the only disadvatage to Wear / Tear is that it requires both white AND red mana to make full use. This is generally a non-issue in a full on red/white deck, but for decks where red is only a splash or not consistent, Disenchant is the more reliable option.

So... I would say Wear / Tear is definitely the better card - as long as the mana base is consistent enough.
