Does Jace Beleren Have a Place in Modern?

Hey, guys, I'm finishing up a Cruel Control modern deck, but I can't convince myself to buy Vendilion Clique at the moment. So, I need to replace the Vendilion Clique for right now. What do you guys think about Jace Beleren in a control deck? Does he have a place in modern? He draws you a card and takes the heat off you while your opponent tries to kill him. The only two issues I see with him are (1) getting him to 1 loyalty and having to let your opponent draw as well and (2) obviously not being instant speed, so that means not being able to counter something important.

He's too slow and doesn't do enough, he also comes down on a crucial turn. Turn 3 on the play/Turn 4 on the draw are when your opponent is looking to win. You can't be tapping out on those turns. Cruel Control is a rather slow deck and practically needs to be playing draw-go till it can stabilize. I took a look at your deck and to be honest you should have 4 Cryptic Command. That cards is stupid good and makes the deck even have a chance in Modern. That said, its expensive.

I use 3 on my blue / white control deck, it works nice as he lets me draw cards and is also an alternate win condition.

He's alright, I guess. Definitely nothing to get excited about when you draw him, but he's good in EDH, so when you replace him (you will replace him), he can just go into any deck with blue.

All right, thanks for the responses. I decided to just go with Olivia Voldaren for right now just because I have one. SprinkKnoT, I was thinking about playing four, but like you said, it's expensive. I'm thinking of removing a Mana Leak for a third one. I don't know if I would want 4 though.
JexInfinite, I already have the Japanese Duel Decks in my Kruphix EDH deck, so I was just going to take it from the EDH deck.

He's real bad. I'd just play another Olivia or some other big, burly creature.
