Dredge in modern
Modern forum

Hello!
I'm not a big modern player so I was wondering how dredge would play out in the format (with golgari grave troll). You don't have dread return or bazaar of Baghdad type cards so how would the deck look? Would it just de a vengevine deck? Sorry if this is poorly worded. Just trying to visualize the deck

Dredgevine was awesome without GGT. It was kick ass when Deathrite was all the rage...
Its a solid deck, and I think the grave troll would slow it down quite a lot.

You can also look into cards like Zombify and that odd reanimation spell that came out during the original ravnica block. there are options, just non as strong as Dread Return

Interesting, I would have thought that getting more of the recurring threats into the graveyard for free would be pretty fast, gnarlicide. The ability to dredge 6 then throw grave troll away to Lotleth Troll seems powerful on the surface at least.

gnarlicide - I believe you were referring to Vigor Mortis. One of my favorite plays on words

Bridge from Below is usable via Viscera Seer and Drowned Rusalka/Plagued Rusalka. Also, Gravecrawler.
A spreading secret is Hooting Mandrills. Dodges Bolt and Decay, while stomping over basically everything, save for Knight of the Reliquary and packed goyfs.

Hooting Mandrills could be good, but do you really want to delve away everything you're putting into the grave? May as well have a strategy revolving around having a full graveyard instead of using it to delve.

I'm tempted to do something with Sidisi, Tasigur, Jarad, and GGT. Maybe something with Boneyard Wurm too.

I really want to try Monastery Siege with Golgari Grave-Troll. Draw 1, dredge 6, discard ggt each turn seems strong.

i really like Monastery Siege in a BUG shell for dredge. u can dredge back a card and then discard it again and then dredge it back again for ur draw for turn and they stack very well

@bigguy99: Not saying that all of these cards belong into the same deck, but I've seen some Mandrills in playtesting and they do some work.
It's also a card, which doesn't get completely bumfucked by hate that isn't Rest in Piece.
So, just in case Relic of Progenitus and Grafdigger's Cage become the only hate in the meta, sideboard some apes?

Wouldn't Nemesis of Mortals be just better than Hooting Mandrills? It's bigger, it gets a lot bigger, and you don't have to exile your graveyard to play it. It's probably slower, since it's cost gets lower with creature cards only, though.

Dhominus - trample is not insignificant imo, otherwise things like Young Pyromancer stone wall your threat very easily.

I'm running my dredgevine deck (72 Percent). Hooting Mandrills is absurdly good. GGT might be too slow and too all-in (to quote the MTGS thread). I'm trying two in place of Darkblast (since Delver's gonna disappear), but trying is the key word.

maybe a split of Nemesis of Mortals and Hooting Mandrills?in those colours you still have access to Murderous Cut.and how about Sidisi, Brood Tyrant or Tasigur, the Golden Fang? he could be pretty big in a deck like that aswell

How does this look?

I'll just throw a few basic deck concepts for brewing in dredge that I think have some shot.
Tombstalker/Soulflayer centered deck
And an Empty the Pits deck. I feel like one of these could be absolute gold.

I want to see if Dark Deal can make a splash in a dredge focused deck.
January 19, 2015 9:28 p.m.
Nigeltastic I didn't even think of that card. Oh god that's filthy with dredge if I'm interpreting it right. Would each card drawn be able to trigger a separate dredge?
January 19, 2015 9:54 p.m.
So my empty the pits idea I have has a shot. To the brew board

I brewed a deck and have been testing on untap (it's on my page). And dark deal has done work. Especially because you can dredge the cards you discard because of how dark deal is worded

This is a question I think a lot of people want to figure out the answer to. Dredgevine certainly is an option I think. We'll see what people brew.
