Hello, everybody! I have a question for every dredge, reanimator, delirium and every other graveyard focused deck's player. How do you perform in the actual meta? Every sideboard Now has one or two slots dedicated to GY hate. Can you play around it or the situation is like Affinity vs Stony Silence and you have to sit back?
I asked because i really like GY shenanigans, but people like you (and like me, to be fair) keep me from actually building something related and i wanted to be reassured.

Well for decks like dredge you typically run Abrupt Decays out of the sideboard and other hate for their hate. In legacy reanimator you've got a few versions that are primarily just tweaks in the sideboard being either you splash green for Reverent Silence or white for Wear / Tear reason I bring up legacy reanimator is that in modern graveyard decks have to work the same way where you both accept that there will be a large amount of hate for you but also that your sideboard has to be hate for that hate.

Like your biggest Ally is abrupt decay. If they drop RIP then you just get kinda boned if you don't have the removal right away. Typically dredge and reanimator styles want to combo and do their thing before it becomes an issue. Delirium builds to my knowledge will either make you discard the hate or try to counter it if they have blue.

Sounds about right.. I read a couple years back that competitive mtg really does comes down to a battle of the sideboards.. And to that effect yes, Graveyard strategies simply need to pack a lot of anti-hate in their own sideboards.. I mean, Graveyard strategies DO reach the Top-8 often enough, and every once in a while even outright win tournaments too..

Well, i suppose you can't always hit all your hate cards in every match.

Yep.. Sometimes it just comes down to the luck of the draw..

I think the hate has made graveborn players more creative actually, in legacy the reanimator deck can set up turn one, Rest in Peace still kinda sucks though and is the reason I retired from playing dredge. Also don't forget Krosan Grip it's efficient removal.

Decks like Dredge and Living End generally do a pretty good job of fighting through the first graveyard hate piece with cards like Beast Within and Abrupt Decay. Just slamming Rest in Peace and then doing nothing won't beat them - you have to actually present a win condition or disrupt them further. You will not do well if someone has something like 4 Relic of Progenitus in their sideboard, but the decks that can afford to do so are few. In general, they hold up fine.

One or two? Ha! That's cute.. I dedicate a solid 1/3 of my sideboard to Graveyard-hate, because most Graveyard-based shenanigans tend to be very powerful, and are generally "unfair" by definition.. Most seasoned players are aware of this fact as well, and therefore is a reality that "Graveborn" players just have to live with (and have been for a long time)..
