Hey there Modern enthusiasts. I am looking to get into modern but I am really lost on what deck to play. I have a very decent card pool and budget so they are not an issue. I do however, want to play something cool that I don't get to play in EDH. Like Griselbrand or Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or a cool deck like dredgevine. But I don't want to drop hundreds in cash and trade for a deck that isn't top tier or at least close. I have no preference on colour I just want to know what are the top decks out there at the very least so I can see what I am up against. Thanks in advance! :-)
Top deck wise, we have UWR, Jund, Pod, Scapeshift.
As a cheaper interesting deck you can do something like Living End.

Sorry checked mtgtop8 after posting, both live in 'instant reanimator' as 4 of's.

Well, the decks you mentioned aren't "top tier", though Dredgevine is a tremendous amount of fun (in my opinion) and a reanimator Griselbrand /Emrakul, the Aeons Torn deck finished in the top 16 in the last Modern Grand Prix. They'd be something to look at, but only if you really want to play that kind of thing.
As far as power in the metagame...I'm not sure. Scavenging Ooze can really ruin a reanimator deck's day, and it wasn't legal for that GP Top 16. But that deck has a backup plan in Through the Breach , and while it's slower than Goryo's Vengeance , the decks against which it would need to be played (creature decks that run the Ooze in the first place) are also slower. Besides, Deathrite Shaman was legal and widely played and sometimes Todd Anderson (who piloted that deck) just outraced it. It might be worth looking at, and it would be a lot of fun to try.
I watched the coverage where it executed a turn 2 kill. If it becomes good and places here and there, it might be subject to some banning, because Wizards doesn't like that even in only moderately good decks (see: Seething Song ). This may be a consideration for you as well.
I did take a serious look at doing reanimator when I shifted from Standard to Modern a little while back, but I settled on Melira Pod for my first deck instead. This was also partially motivated by my card pool, since I was playing Junk Aristocrats in Standard and 17-18 of the cards are shared.
I know I didn't address the question of what decks are out there, but I imagine you'll get lots of help with that.

cool thanks guy, I have been looking around and seeing the UWR and Jund taking over the world. I will take a look now, liking the sounds of 'instant reanimator' :-) will look at living end too! keep the love coming :-)

thanks man, you have certainly helped. I mean I won't be heading off to compete at world level or anything I just want the deck to get a decent way into events at least. I don't care about winning and coming 1st every single time if I have to play stuff i'm not a huge fan of. I would much prefer to drop a Brand and lol when my deck works nicely :-)

My favorite, which I play, is Esper Gifts. You could run Russell Brand in that.

Dropping a Griselbrand the way that reanimator deck does it is particularly exciting because it's likely that you'll get to attack with it more than once that turn, and sometimes you can attack with it three times the turn it comes out. That has to be fun.

You might take a look at the Modern forum on MTG Salvation. They have sections for proven decks, established decks, etcetera. Here's a link.

Ajeman Cinnajob made a good deck with both of these. I'm not sure how to link, but here's the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlzkTf2wj-E

Yeah, that's partly Todd Anderson's GP deck, though there are some differences. One of those is that Anderson played Simian Spirit Guide for some extra speed or cards to pitch to Fury of the Horde , and I like that better.
Since he was T16, Anderson's list is on the Wizards site with the GP KC report.

Thanks guys u all rock seriously. Im lovin the todd anderson deck i have copied it onto here for a gold fish sesh n im liking it. Goin pitch it against a typical jund tmoz n see how it goes. This reanimate deck is a bit cheaper than others too as alot is common/uncommon n meh rares so its always gud to have cash left over! Cud even use the emrakul n gris in a similar elgacy deck but with sneak and show wich i also love the idea of!

See this article then mtgtop8.com for the top decks in each format and brew... In modern emrakul is usually played in tron decks a d grissy sees play in legacy decks, specifically sneak and show (both are played in this deck). I do t think grissy has a home in modern tier 1 decks. I could be wrong but I don't see him.
