Gimmicky rogue decks

Modern forum

I love rogue decks and/or decks that focus on a gimmick.
I would just love to hear some archetypes or fun cards to build around since i have some free time to spare.
(oh and if the idea isn't competetive, just interesting i would still like to know).

I have a lot of janky decks, normally I brew around a specific card or idea and go from there. Not everything is great, but it is still hilarious.

Anyways, I'd recommend checking out my profile. I have a lot of private decks that aren't exactly up to snuff or I just felt couldn't be improved any more, but my best or quirkiest are on my profile.

The combo of Jhessian Thief and Whirler Rogue has been giving me good results. Unblockable rogue that also draws cards is win. A 1/3 body with prowess is great too.

Oh, there are tons of decks you could try!

There's the Polymorph deck, for example! Play no creatures except some big dudes like Emrakul and tons of tokens maker, then target one with Polymorph and win with your fatties.

Then I found somewhere a list of an Eggs deck that used Faith's Reward instead of Second Sunrise. It's surely worth a try.

Another nice call is the "land control" deck, which uses cards like Annex, Dream Leash and Wildfire to disrupt the opponent's mana base.

Finally, one last deck you could experiment with is the one which exploits the hard lock of the combo Curse of Exhaustion + Knowledge Pool .

Happy brewing!

Curse of Exhaustion+Knowledge Pool

That's pretty cool. It would turn everything into manland battles.

Shaman deck play like a more resilient toolboxy version of Gruul zoo and in my opinion is arguably better due to the ability to do direct damage due to Rage Forger.

Gimmicky eh? You could always play a modern version of the Running With Scissors deck that they were playing in standard awhile back. Darksteel Relic and Ornithopter for the hilariousness that is swinging for 5 on turn two via Ensoul Artifact.

@JaceArveduin You forget that Mox Opal lets you do it on turn 1!

lemmingllama But you don't have a way to give it haste XD

@JaceArveduin True. But assuming you are ensouling a Darksteel Citadel, you wouldn't have to wait until turn 3. Also it allows you to play Shrapnel Blast more easily.

Restore Balance is Living Ends janky cousin. It can run 9-12 land with the rest or your mana sources being Fieldmist Borderpost type cards. You then use Greater Gargadon to sac most of your stuff before a Restore Balance leaving you opponent with almost nothing. Some lists have March of the Machines because of all the borderpost creating an army out of nothing. You can steal some games with the deck.

@PixelAlex - If you're going to try that deck, consider Possibility Storm instead of Knowledge Pool (or along side it).

It effectively does the same thing, is 1CMC cheaper, and can also makes things quite awkward for your opponent when you don't yet have the Curse of Exhaustion.

When they were in Standard, I built a deck that used Eidolon of Rhetoric + Possibility Storm to lock out my opponent... locked me out too, so I had to ensure I had the better board state first. (I also use a few token generators)

Blightsteel Colossus + Shape Anew is a good combo.

Add Splicers, to have artifact creatures, while not having artifact creatures you can run into if you search your library - Blade Splicer, Master Splicer, Wing Splicer ... etc.
(They boost blightsteel colossus too)

Add flicker effects to protect your stuff & grow the number of golems. - Cloudshift, Momentary Blink, Ghostway, ...etc.
