Glen Elendra?

Modern forum

Simple topic, how viable is Glen Elendra Archmage in the current modern meta. Is Spell Pierce just better, or what?

It dies to almost all forms of removal except Abrupt Decay and costs 5 mana to start countering something. Even Cryptic is cheaper to cast. It can be effective but is extremely slow.

Depends on the deck. Very few decks actually want to play glen elendra archmage.

Well, the card in general is a little slow but you almost always 2 for 1 something, because of the persist factor of the card. In the right deck, say a deck that removes those counters, the card can be amazing. I think the card, for the Modern format, might be a bit slow. I like it better for EDH myself.

Just my opinion.

I would never play it as more than a one-of and only in a control deck. It just doesn't seem worth it.

Maybe paired with Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit?

Spell Pierce fits into tempo decks like butter with bread. It's a good card to be playing in your tempo deck. Glen Elendra Archmage requires a specific deck, or a weird deckbuilder. It's not a bad card when you look at it, it just doesn't fit well into the meta.
