I'm working on this deck for Modern, and it needs some tweaking for the control element to be relevant, but I'm wondering...how fast does a combo deck need to be in this crazy wonderful format?

This should probably be in the Modern forum.

decks like melirapod and splinter twin tend to go off on turns 3, 4, and 5. Eggs, living end, too. This is because unless you really have a good way to stay alive, jund and burn will kill you really fast, just like other decks, too. You want to be able to get your combo pieces out as quickly as possible. Otherwise, any good way to stay alive, be it Timely Reinforcements or Wall of Denial , would be valuable.

I never go past turn five, and have figured out what pieces are important to making it happen turn four. Wizards has stated they don't want combo decks that can win turn three consistently, so I'm not planning for it, but at the same time I'm running some disruption just in case.

My Pyro Ascension deck goes off pretty consistently on turn four or five. I think turn four is what you want to aim for, since Tron plays Karn Liberated on their turn three, which absolutely cripples a combo deck.

I've has some success against Tron, but the last time I played it, the guy got three Relic of Progenitus and the hosed me. Has anyone played against post-banning Jund? I haven't run into it and I'm wondering if it's still a thing.

Take a look guys, see what you think. It's called Life From The Stinkweed Scholar's Birthing Ooze.
