Good decks to playtest against

Modern forum

I'm in the process of making a modern deck.

Is there some modern decks on this site that would be good to playtest against?

You could always import the most recent top 8 lists and play against those. StarCityGames typically uploads the top decklists from their events.

If you want you can download cockatrice or LackeyCCG and playtest against people on there.

I have Lackey and if your ever on I will help you test out your decks just hit me up. My user name is the same user name that I have on this site.

also I was thinking a deck idea over for the new Jund what do you think?

Modern Varolz I haven't seen what my meta will feel like yet so the sideboard is still a WIP.

USA : Modern Midrange is my modern deck. It's got a few quirks compared to the "Tier One" list, but I still went 4-3 at my local PTQ piloting it, beating some damn good decks.

thx for the tips guys.

@SwiftDeath your deck definitely looks evil but my modern knowledge is next to nothing so can't really give feedback on it. That being said varolz seems very good.

staple decks to play test any modern deck against

  • red deck wins (this is my first and last test for any and every modern deck)

next up

  • esper
  • jund
  • RUW flash

just look up any top 8 finsh you will find good examples of all three

other decks to test against

  • naya / the boom/bust deck is one to keep an eye on
  • zoo / yes is has fallen on hard times but keep it in mind
  • delver / always around, never forget about this pest
  • infect / may sound silly but you do not want to be left sitting there wondering what just happened.
  • soul sisters - this u100$ deck has pulled down ptq's do not over look it.

if you can get through that gauntlet with a deck you are happy with you are on your way,

the three decks that consistently do well IMO are:

Jund, Tron, America Control,

Others to watch out for: Affinity, Bogle, Twin, RDW

Here are my two modern builds tell me how you fare Slippery Bogle and the Spire Mice and Twin Binge

BR burn deck - an odd ball deck, that gave me some trouble, i won the match 2-1 and the main reason i won is he put himself on top deck in the 3rd game giving me breathing room top decked into land for 3 turns,

card of note - Rain of Gore - this thing was just nasty, this card alone won 3 of his first 4 matches,

Me and my friends used to have a way of putting up a deck with the ultimate test "Top Performance Mode".

It's basically playing ur usual Magic with the exception of luck. Each choose their own starting hand, and when u have to draw a card, u choose what u want to draw. This way we each get a good look on how our deck would perform when its in its top performance. If u can't beat a deck in this mode, then ur deck would be completely useless against that deck type.

Now, arguments can be made that it made card drawing power useless. But I would remind u that this is just playtesting and card drawing spells are essentially tools to increase ur chances on getting an answer to a specific board state. This mode just tests whether u actually do have an answer to it.

Anyway, just try it sometime, its a nice way to really test the ultimate power of ur deck

mtgtop8.com has all the best decks you can imagine to test yourself and beat. The trick is though, the better player you are the more you will know how to play a scapeshift deck and thus it becomes harder but realistic
