Good sideboard cards vs scapeshift, and twin?

Modern forum

My modern fnm top 5, was 2 scapeshift decks, 2 twin decks, and my deck. I played both scapeshifts going 1-1-1 vs one and 0-2 vs the other. I was lucky enough to avoid the twin decks.

I need some ideas for good sideboard cards that I can use against both decks in future fnms. I'm playing mardu so they need to be in those colors. Right now I'm thinking Slaughter Games, and Boil. Any other ideas?

Slaughter Games seems like your best bet. Thoughtseize (if its not already there). Wear / Tear and Celestial Purge hit Splinter Twin as well as other cards. Not too sure about Mardu Anti-Scapeshift, you might just have to race.

I'm playing mardu tokens. I can't afford the leylines saldy. Do you guys think slaughter games is an okay option? Or would it be a waste of sideboard space?

So is Thoughtseize.

Don't do the Rakdos Charm thing. From experience, one of two things happen :

  1. The Twin player holds up counter magic

  2. They only spawn enough guys to kill you an thus won't have enough guys to kill themselves

Your best bet is absolutely Slaughter Games. Run 2-3 SB. It hits every combo ever and can't be countered. Worth the 4 mana

Beating a Combust is alot easier than beating a Slaughter Games.

But it is still good regardless.

I'd certainly play Combust over Slaughter Games. With the latter, you're not guaranteed value because the Twin player can still kill you with damage. With Combust, you can blow them out.

As for Scapeshift, Slaughter Games is gas, as is Sowing Salt.

Against twin, Spellskite and against Scapeshift, either Choke or Slaughter Games as you said.

Spellskite is also good against scapeshift. If you play ghost quarters alongside it it makes them search for a lot more lands

Spellskite is not good against Scapeshift. They just need to get to one more land, which is sometimes relevant, but more often than not it's easy to do and you're better off with another card.

Spellskite doesn't do much against Scapeshift @selesvyaloverer8

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll probably be putting 2 copies of Combust, and 2 copies of Slaughter Games in my sideboard. I'll still probably bring in Slaughter Games against twin, as well as Combust. I also bring in 3 more discard spells,as well, in these combo control matchups.

I wasn't saying that Combust isn't bad, Just depends on what angle you feel you need to attack.

I would play both and bring both in but both are beatable.

Batwing Brume is great against twin or Kiki if you run into him.

As an avid twin player I can say that: torpor orb, linvala, combust and spellskite are hard barriers, from the colors you're playing. Though keep in mind that spellskite doesn't block Kiki + exarch. I play a u/r tempo twin, some play w/u/r or u/r/g & are built to win without the combo if need be. Keep that in mind, if you over hate the combo you may be getting beat in the face with a pesterskull.

Pesterskull, I like that.

My list is pretty standard, Has the green splash in for Ancient Grudge and a Surrak Dragonclaw.

Pod was the only deck to play Linvala do it isn't that much of a threat anymore.

The Rakdos Charm and Batwi g Brume things I dont like, Spell Snare is pretty nice and I doubt they would try and combo into open mama without protection.

Peek and Gitaxian Probe will make these tricks less likely to blow ypur opponent out aswell.

Rending Volley. Id play two of those and two Combust in my sideboard if I played red in modern, and faced a lot of twin in the meta.
