Grand Prix Detroit coverage

That's 10 of the top 16 in GP Detroit being BG/x decks, be they Rock or Jund or Ajundi or Junk. If there's any doubt that Deathrite Shaman is the best card in the format...well, there isn't any doubt.

The other lesson is that Melira Pod still eats BG decks up. Third Modern GP win in a row, this time updated with Archangel of Thune / Spike Feeder to counteract Scavenging Ooze .

I wouldn't say it eats them up. The match was close.

In other news, water is still wet.

The big news was Chandra, Pyromaster being mainboard in top 8 Jund decks. It kind of makes sense now that I look at it. Dat 0 ability.

The primary point was that while only one Melira Pod deck made the top 8, the fact that it was in the same top 8 with Affinity and 6 BG decks gave it a bit of an advantage. It's not a walkover by any means, but as a Melira Pod player I'm pretty happy in a metagame that has lots and lots of Jund.

I do think that Chandra, Pyromaster was the big winner of the tournament. I've seen it used a little here and there, but to see it be so successful (when no other Chandra can even make a decent Standard deck) is kinda cool.
