Hello, I was random carding through gatherer when I came upon the card card:guerrilla_tactics. Doesn't this seem like a perfect answer to Liliana if you have it in your hand when they play her no matter what the do? It seems like a really good sideboard card in such a Liliana-dominated format.

As far as I can tell, this isn't anywhere near good enough to see Modern play. First of all, Modern isn't really "Liliana-dominated." Lili is certainly powerful, but it's not as if Liliana is necessarily the best card in the format, as many other spells are arguably more powerful. Besides that, Tactics is only good for "kill 1 Liliana after they dump their Lingering Souls," which is pretty terrible. As far as I can tell, Pithing Needle is just better in every way, and even Needle isn't that popular.

Most people will use Loxodon Smiter or Obstinate Baloth as their discard hate cards, since they are also good when just normally cast.

If you need a card like that to deal with Liliana of the Veil, then there is a small problem. In short, no, there are better cards than that. You shouldn't make a deck that will fold to Lily.

I actually do rather like this card in some sideboards. It's very good against any deck playing Liliana of the Veil, so while fairly narrow, it does have its uses.

@HerderOfNerf: I just don't see a scenario in which Guerilla Tactics is better than Pithing Needle. Unless they have a Decay, and Needle is actually the best target (unlikely), Needle is just a lot better.

Why are you comparing Guerrilla Tactics to Pithing Needle? The cards are not similar in the least, and serve totally different roles.
Tactics just doesn't have a high enough power level to be playable. End of story.

Tactics is only reasonable against Liliana. Needle is much better against Liliana.

A lot of the decks playing Liliana of the Veil will board her out against Burn (the type of deck where you'd want Guerrilla Tactics. I don't think it's worth the sideboard slot over additional Skullcracks, Path to Exile, Destructive Revelry, or Molten Rain.
I do think think Guerrilla Tactics is a great card if your meta has a lot of 8-Rack, Junk Gifts, or Aggro Loam players. These are mostly fringe decks, however, and you may not have the sideboard space.

Very inconsistent, however. Your opponent won't have Liliana every game, and when they don't it's very, very mediocre.
