Hell's Thunder OR Chandra's Phoenix?

I am putting together a red Sligh deck and am having a hard time deciding between Hell's Thunder and Chandra's Phoenix . I like that the Phoenix is pretty cheap to recur but I like the punch of the Thunder. Any thoughts?

I would personally go with phoenix only because of the recursion factor. With all the instants and sorceries you'll probably be flinging around getting the phoenix back will be no sweat.

Run a 3/2 split of Phoenix and Thunder for awhile until you see how you like it. They both provide a good amount of punch. The unearth is a bit expensive for Hell's Thunder but it is initially a 4/4 for 3.

Well, Hell's Thunder is essentially a (slightly worse) sorcery for 3 mana: deal 4 damage to target player or flying creature with flashback 5.

I think I would prefer Chandra's Phoenix since you can attack every turn and you can get it back easily even if it dies.

But Hell's Thunder does have trample so if their Lingering Souls tokens are clogging up the airways it's still gets through. Although later game if they have big fliers you're kind of hooped but this is a RDW build so late game isn't really a consideration. [

[chandra's Phoenix]] walks right into chump blockers and gets killed by those same late game fliers. Plus it costs you the price of your burn spell and cost to recast it. Realistically probably no more than 1RRR but still...

It's not really an argument against the Phoenix so much as saying he can cut two thunders and a mountain to run 3 Phoenix's. I like diversification due to things like Extirpate and Surgical Extraction .

Hell's Thunder doesn't have trample.

I prefer the Chandra's Phoenix , as with enough burn it keeps coming back.

The idea of running a trial split isn't too bad either.
