Help with a modern deck?

Hello, first off I appreciate any help that I get here.
I have a fairly good understanding of most decks in modern but I really want to start playing. What decks do you guys recommend that are relatively cheap, not going to get banned (Jeskai Combo) and fun/interactive so that I can learn to play while getting good at modern. Hopefully it also can go 2-2 or 3-1 at a Saturday Night Modern at the LGS.
Preferably not burn, RDW, Soul Sisters, Infect, or Hexproof/Bogle.
Thanks in advance.

It depends highly on your playstyle. If you like playing aggro, go for Affinity or Burn. If you're into combo-control, Scapeshift and Splinter Twin are good options, Jund is strong for midrange. mtgtop8.com has a long list of decks that you can look at for inspiration.

Merfolk is a decent spot to start from I think. I run a U/W variant but it usually is mono blue and runs perfectly fine either or and it's pretty simple to play and as you play you learn the subtle aspects of the deck on the fly. You can take a look at mine for ideas. Most of the deck is a typical merfolk build save for the white sourced lands and the paths and sejiri merfolk. Attack of the Mer

Thanks for the help so far. I do really like tribal decks and aggro/midrange. I forgot to mention that my LGS allows 10 proxies, which is really awesome.
What about the UR Aggro/Delvermancer lists that some are running? If the most expensive 10 cards are 'free' (proxies) until I actually purchase them would it be worth it? What is the best list you have seen?

I am personally a rather large fan of allies. I play a UW version myself, but bant allies has seen play in PTQs in the past. I do not think there have been any recent lists, though.

It's the best deck in the format right now, commonly referred to as simply UR Delver.

Build your own brew that hates on the top teir modern decks!!! It's great fun to win with a deck you designed on your own instead of following the traditional archetypes

vomdur The traditional archetypes are successful for a reason. Pod has few bad matchups.
I'd say Affinity is always good. It's aggressive, reasonably affordable, and is really fun. The only problem is that it's quite difficult to pilot. Figuring out if your opening hand is good, and what play to make early on is very skill reliant.

I play pod in paper and UR Delver on MTGO in Modern. I also play UR delver in legacy. Delver and burn are your cheapest and strongest decks currently. However, it is possible Treasure Cruise (the steam behind delver) will see a ban in a couple months; I would feel bad to recommend a deck that has the chance of being neutered
Pod is my favorite deck in the format hands down.

I love how u say suggest me a budget deck then list off all the budget decks as decks u don't want.
U can build some mono blue control or tron & win with it...

Wic_Uber I built this a while back and it was tons of fun and had quite a few decent matches. It'll allow u to learn modern and your meta (the hard way), you'll also be able to pull out some wins. The SB was mostly left overs so I would strongly advise developing a more meta specific SB. Best part, is the most of expensive card is Remand which is a modern staple so you'll be able to A) easily trade it in the event u don't like it and B) use it in a ton of different decks once u want to move on to a better deck. U can build the entire deck for less than 100.00. (If u have any Mutavaults from standard u can throw them in)

Do you like playing control? How about cruelty? You could become a Cruel Control player today!
I specifically play the Grixis (Black Red Blue) variant of the Cruel Ultimatum deck and I love it. It's not considered a tier deck, but there is plenty of room to improve, innovate, and succeed. The archetype has a lot of potential.
If that interests you, you could check out these two decks to see some different takes on Grixis Cruel Control.
