Just curious as to why Hexdrinker sees play. Is it the 2/1 body turn one? Or can rock really drag a game out long enough to max it out?

This just has a low opportunity cost in midrange decks. Solid T1 play, and not irrelevant late game or topdecked on a board stall. Dangerous if left unchecked

Especially due to the fact that the level up cost can be paid for with . Turning it into a a bigger body with a wide away of protections is useful.

If it's left unchecked for a few turns, you can level it up while playing other, perhaps more threatening cards while dumping mana into it to make it even more threatening too. It's slow, yeah, but it fits in really well to any slot. Basically a shoe-in for filling mana-gaps in most lists.

Not great card advantage, but sheer field value gives it a good power level, similar to, but not the same as Goyf, which doesn't need further mana dumped into it.

Isn’t this a turn two 4/4? Assuming you have two lands to play on your first two turns, and you’re not looking to cast anything else, that is.

Swing on turn two for four seems pretty heavy...

Sorry, all. I just read more about level cards. I didn’t realize they start as a lvl 0 rather than one.

That’ll teach me to talk about a card (or card type, even!) that I’ve never played!

It fits well in aggro lists as a way to stay relevant if the game goes long. It also is a good mana sink during turns when you don't use all your other mana. It eats removal that would be better saved for other creatures in the right decks. There's lots of upside to it.

I took a third in a FNM vintage cube by leveling up Hexdrinker! Unchecked he wins games!
