How to deal with a summoned Phyrexian Obliterator

Modern forum

Given any modern archetype, how do you deal with it? Anything that runs blue can counter it, anything that runs white can Path to Exile it. Black has hard removal and such, but aside from those options, what can green and red do? Are there as efficient options in the colors I've already mentioned?

Burn can.... Burn it? Lol

Green can..... Get rekt I guess lol. I don't play much green so I don't know what sort of removal green has.

Neither red not green can deal with it.

I guess you have Beast Within

Green can always Fog and Tajuru Preserver I suppose... Not sure about red, though, as its favorite way to remove things is burn.

Linear decks ignore it and continue with their plan to go over the top.

Then the red strategy is to outpace it; I can dig it. Green seems too involved; Beast Within seems the best in my eyes, thanks y'all.

Scrambleverse it over to your side.

Not Modern competitive of course, but you'd win the entire GP on style and hilarity points.

Crater elemental deals sage so it isn't a good response.

Also I thought this was about competitive modern because the question is about 'efficient' options.

Crater Elemental is just a 0/6 that can block without dying or doing damage to Obliterator.

I missed the "efficient" part. I guess that just leaves Lignify and Utopia Vow in Green, "can't block" effects for red, and Brittle Effigy and Ratchet Bomb for both?

Both red and green can run Dismember /thread

That wasn't /thread at all.

The best way to make light of Phyrexian Obliterator is with one of your own. How? Play Phyrexian Metamorph.

The best green answer is Lignify or Beast Within

Wrack with Madness was a limited answer.

May 29, 2015 11:04 a.m.

Wrack doesn't effect you though?

ChiefBell What was that ', give defender' enchantment?

May 29, 2015 11:32 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #18

Guard Duty. Though it wouldn't work because you'd still have to attack into it.

May 29, 2015 11:33 a.m.

Wrack with Madness is perfect, because obliterator hits itself, so it's control sacs permanents

meecht says... #20

@ChiefBell - Gelid Shackles sort of fixes that issue, so long as you keep a snow mana up.

May 29, 2015 11:52 a.m.

Dismember it. Just like they did in Standard.

Most red or green decks in Modern are fast enough to race Phyrexian Obliterator or not care about it (Burn, Elves, etc.). G/R Tron is slow but has Karn Liberated to deal with it. What is the purpose of this question? Just a thought exercise, or is it about a specific deck?

Woah I definately like Wrack with Madness more than I like Phyrexian Metamorph for red.
