How to deal with Splinter Twin?
Modern forum

So, I'm building a semi-competitive Goblin tribal for my LGS. It has a few Twin decks, and I'm unsure of how to deal with it post-sideboard.
I was looking for a burn spell, but everything of the like seems to be sorcery speed, which doesn't help.
Any ideas?

Torpor Orb seems like it would do the trick. If it ends up not performing, I'll probably run Dragonskull Summit mainboard and sb a set of Rakdos Charm. Thanks!

Torpor Orb and Spellskite are your two greatest allies. Torpor Orb stops their combo, and Spellskite will grab the Splinter Twins right off of their creatures. Plus both can go into different decks if necessary, Combust and Rakdos Charm are good options but they are more color specific.

I moved this to the modern forum because it's not specifically about a deck, but is a general discussion about how red decks beat twin.

Torpor Orb also shuts down Siege Rhino which is pretty relevant in the meta right now

I would not sideboard torpor orb in against Abzan.

Maybe the Gone side of Dead/Gone?
Rakdos Charm is an option, but your opponent can play around it in Game 3 after losing to it in Game 2. All they have to do is make just enough creatures to kill you, but not enough for them to die off Charm.

I wouldn't say it 'shuts it down' when they've still got a 4/5 trampling creature. Stopping the life gain is relevant for a fast red deck, but not enough to use a card that only hurts one threat in a midrange deck.

I think Torpor Orb and Spellskite are the most viable options.

While many of these are excellent options for stopping the combo, remember that many of the Twin lists are built on the principle that they force you to respect their combo while they can simply play a tempo/control game - especially after sideboard when they know you're likely to bring in combo hate. Something like Torpor Orb or Rakdos Charm doesn't look so hot when they are just killing you with a Vendilion Clique in the air or Tarmogoyf while keeping you off the board with Remand.
This is why something like Combust is a really good option. It 2-for-1s them when they go for the combo, and it's not a dead card if they are siding out the combo against you.

Combust is the actual best card. They can't interact with it at all.

They're still decent options. Torpor orb is a one shot effect that keeps them of their game, from that point on you can focus on answering their threats play-by-play. As a BG player I have Abrupt Decay so I tend to not be scared of twin anyway.

I agree with Slycne here. In a lot of twin builds, especially tarmo-twin and the like, Orb vs twin can feel almost as bad as Orb vs Rhino. You waste your 2-drop slot while they can set stuff up, and especially in an aggressive deck like goblins, that's a turn you should have been spending on applying pressure. If you don't do that, they can easily keep you off balance while they Clique you to death in increments of three.
For an aggro deck vs twin, your plan is to put them on such a fast clock that they either have to devote turns and resources just to slowing you down, or are forced just to go for the combo and hope you don't have Combust. But you do have it, because you sided it in.

I know it isn't in your colours, but I use Electrolyze for Pestermite and Valorous Stance for Deceiver Exarch.

Torpor Orb is always a good option
