How viable is Infect?

My LGS has a Modern FNM coming up, and I love using my infect deck. How viable, in general, is Infect in competitive modern play?
Alright so it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and run an infection deck?

No, it's not a bad idea at all :) I ran infect my first few tournaments, i built them for casual play and i actually didn't do half bad. Infect is amazing, as long as you can build it right. And that depends on the colours you throw in as well. Bi-Coloured would be best, either B/G B/U or U/G (U/G is mainly aggro, lacking in late game, but with Mutagenic Growth and Giant Growth on Blighted Agent , it calls for an easy win :) also my favorite; Tricks of the Trade on Phyrexian Hydra ) But B/G and B/U can be more fun. Tri-Coloured if you got money, it works great too :) Ichor Rats for the win :3 Contagion Engine /Contagion Clasp as well, they also help your Planeswalkers if you decide to run them.
The point is; Infect is very playable, you just want to throw them off with how you play it. If you run your infect deck as most people run any other deck, they'll see you like any other opponent and most likely have a plan for you. Be taboo with the taboo mechanic, and you'll do just splended.

Whatever you do, if you run green, use Vines of Vastwood it's incredibly broken with infect.
I wish Invigorate was modern legal :(

Infect is very "aggbo" (aggro + combo) in Modern. I would suggest going Green with a splash of Blue for Blighted Agent and Simic Charm . It's a very aggressive deck.

Honestly, my favorite Infect flavor is B/G, because you can get the infect bombs like Phyrexian Crusader and Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , while still running the Giant Growth and Mutagenic Growth you need.

Honestly, one of my favorite decks is a U/G Infect deck. It's fragile, sure, but if i'm the first to play, i've gotten turn two wins with it, haha. (turn 1 Glistener Elf , turn 2 miracle Revenge of the Hunted ,+2 Mutagenic Growth s)

While B/G may have bombs, it's too slow to be effective in the Modern format.

Infect used to be brokenly stupid when people were playing Blazing Shoal for instant wins. Since Blazing Shoal is now banned, infect is now just regular stupid. If you want to play competitively, do as the others have said and focus on efficient, low-cost infect creatures, then back them up with efficient, low-cost support spells. Most infect creatures and spells are pretty expensive compared to what you actually get, so don't bother trying to cram into your deck every infect creature ever printed.

Alright. My current B/G infect deck has a lot of low drops like Flensermite , Plague Stinger , and of course the Inkmoth Nexus for when I have mana left over in a turn. I've had some pretty consistent results playing Wild Defiance turn 3 then ending it turn 5 by playing a Titanic Growth on a Plague Stinger , since it had already hit them for a counter turn 3 and 4. I probably will splash blue for the Blighted Agent . What I like doing is playing Ichor Rats one turn then Septic Rats the next.

Yeah, I'm working on gathering the last few cards I need. If I miss this FNM it's no big deal, my LGS alternates Modern and Standard every week. It's really nice since i don't have a competitive Standard deck yet.

Infect can effectively trounce combo if they don't defend themselves.
There are two infect decks that have some results in modern - U/G infect and a strange mono black list that only uses Phyrexian Crusader and Phyrexian Vatmother . U/G infect is better, simply, in a lot of games.
If you go to a Modern FNM, chances are serious players will be there who have researched the format. I strongly recommend finding a competitive list on the internet and building off of it. I know that there's a stigma against "netdecking" but if there are any observant players at your LGS, it'll be a swarm of netdecks. You know, casual is one thing and modern is another.

Can you please not bring up really old threads? This one died over 9 months ago, and your post only somewhat relates to the topic.
