I found myself in a huge debate

Modern forum

So imma need you guys to help me pick a deck. As you may have heard I am making my long await debute into modern. I've been playing standard and I already topped a few locals. And I won like 2. But now I have my sights set on the modern format. So without future adue which one of these two decks should I work on? I'm actually gonna take this debate seriously

Grixis twin

Or

Esper Super Friends!!!

Which one would you guys say is the better one?

Grixis Twin is better. It's a Twin deck, which is one of the best decks at the moment, which has black for disruption and Tasigur. Easy choice.

I think Twin is the best choice, I would think about diversifying your combo targets; like 3-2/2-3 Pestermite and Exarch. I don't know if you have some laying around or not.

Disclaimer, I have not looked at either of the decks. I'm making a judgment based solely on the names.

Grixis Twin. As Jex said, Twin is one of the best decks in the format, and the black splash gives you access to a fair amount of disruption.

Esper really, really sucks in Modern. It doesn't do anything. It durdles until it loses, which it usually does. If you manage to win with Esper against a competent player, I applaud you.

And then Superfriends is also a really slow and gimmicky strategy.

Grixis Twin all the way. As much as I hate Twin. Fuck that deck.

Rock forever.

Your Grixis twin deck looks like a stronger deck overall, plus it also helps that your Esper list is missing a card. Anyways, Twin is much better positioned in this meta, and it has a greater chance of winning even when it's losing.

Superfriends doesn't really work quite as well in Modern, and Esper is a little too slow for it. If you do want to try superfriends, I would recommend Sultai for it.

I just noticed that the YuGiOh terminology is strong with this one. "Locals", "topped"

Also, FIX YOUR DAMN SPELLING.

Any chance you can inform me on the magic slang for those words?

Locals are normally referred to FNM (Friday Night Magic) level, or LGS (local game store) level

Topped is acceptable though, it works for both games. Typically Top 8 is what magic players care about.

You could say "did well", I suppose, but that lends itself to being underestimated.

Esper is currently the best control deck in modern for the purpose of counter spell-based strategies(aside from Sultai, but they are even in my mind), but that build is not really even playable in a tourney(speaking just from a few playtests).

Grixis twin is definitely the better choice, especially if your newer to modern. If you want to play an all in control deck well, you need to be able to build it well and know almost every matchup to a T, otherwise it will just flop over.

Twin is a great way to start easing into control in modern btw, so if you REALLY want to play esper, Grixis twin is a good place to start.

It wouldn't be a wise way of starting modern but man

Tron's Dragons

Would it be Kool

The grixis twin deck feels like it would be stronger in the current modern meta game do to its strong control and powerful splinter twin combo. However I do think the esper super friends sounds like a lot of fun and would be entertaining to see played in modern.
