Will Invigorate ever be legal in Modern? Or would it make Infect dominate too much?
i wouldn't really compare how viable Wild Nacatl is with Invigorate. I'm pretty sure that if it were modern legal, allowing infect to run 2 playsets of free pump spells, (Mutagenic Growth) it would probably make the deck a bit too fast without losing consistency over the current builds. There's a reason why Legacy infect runs it...

Trust me, I'm aware. The issue is that in Legacy, the counterspells and cantrips are almost infinitely better, and in Modern the deck is more fragile. Free stuff is nice, but Might of Old Krosa is close enough to Invigorate that it doesn't matter as much as it may seem. I've tried games with Invigorate in Modern, and it's certainly better but not dominating.

I think they are generally staying away from the free-cost mechanics in Modern (obviously not the futuresight pay-later-or-lose ones since they aren't "free").

It won't make the Infect too dominating, just like Wild Nacatl didn't make Zoo too dominating. It's a very powerful card, and allows Infect pilots to play more protection effects because they will have more mana open. If it was reprinted, Infect would certainly become a great deal more viable than it is today.
