Is Soul Sisters coming back?

Hello Everybody!

Title says it all, but let me explain for the sake of clarity. Last weekend Stephen Stack managed to place 30th at SCG Modern Classic in Dallas with this deck:https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/778777#paper.

I am a budget player, so i am "familiar" with this deck, but i have never played it because i thought it was too vulnerable to removals, hand disruption and wipes. In short: not fit for this meta. Stephen's result has possibly proved me wrong and, if that's the case, i would be happy to have a new toy to play with.

Nonetheless i want to hear your thoughts and opinions about Soul Sisters. Is it strong enough to be a T2 archetype or it is destined to be just a fringe strategy? Do you play it? And what version do you think is the best?

I am personally intrigued by the new Cat Sisters, playing Sacred Cat, Brimaz, King of Oreskos and Regal Caracal as a token generator/anthem, but i also doubt it can be as consistent as the Tune or Martyr Proc versions. Maybe a list with a lower curve mixed with Hatebears has some possibility?

I wouldn't necessarily say it's coming back. It's always been a niche strategy/deck. It's not a deck to take lightly, but as well, it's not a deck that's going to get a consistent top 8 at a GP or SCG open, you know?

That being said, with new sets coming out constantly, and a modern meta that changes oh so quickly, I wouldn't be surprised if the deck became very strong eventually. Just to think, a year ago, storm was one of the weakest combo decks in the meta, and now it's one of the strongest. As well with Death's Shadow - none of the cards in the deck are new, and it was never really overwhelmingly strong, but with a couple changes to bans, it has risen to the top.

Another card from Ixalan which is worth experimentig with is Treasure Map, which would give the deck some form of card advantage and a way to cheat on mana. I suspect it Will be to slow for modern, but playtesting is always worth the effort.

@icehit6 you're right, in fact i wrote (and deleted) an intro to my question stating that Soul Sisters wasn't really disappeared, it just became rarer to find.

Personally i find Auriok Champion a great card right now for the same reason: the metagame shifted toward black beaters (DS, Tasigur, Angler) and she can block them all day while not Fearing Bolt, Push, Terminate, Dismember...

Auriok champion for a mono white deck is overwhelmingly strong. To be honest though, what I think white weenie is missing is the extra color. I think the deck could be very increasingly strong if you throw green in there, opening up to a lot of card choices that help the life gain cause and heavy beaters. Can also help win with some trample.

That remembers me of It Really Adds Up. They're not based on the exact same strategy, but you got what i intended. Also, but this is just me being a cat-lover, green could support the Cat Ladies version with Qasali Pridemage.

Some new cards really create a potential for the deck - but i never thought those would be the cats.

I think 3x Oketra's Monument (added to the 4x Ballyrush Banneret) create really good potions for the deck.
In such a case it can just barf out a million Legion Conquistador / Squadron Hawk on the field.
And draw a lot of cards from Mentor of the Meek since you can easily pay , if your creatures only cost

I tried to play 3 Monuments but it was almost never the card i wanted to play because our main creatures already cost one or two mana and for three mana i prefer playing Spectral Procession or even Brimaz, King of Oreskos.

I didn't mean to put Oketra's Monument into existing souls sisters lists.
I meant that a soldier deck with the titular soul sister, and the cards i mentioned seems really nice.
