Is traditional storm obsolete nowadays?

By traditional storm, I mean the good ol' Grapeshot + Past in Flames (or Pyro Ascension). Looking on mtgtop8 and other websites I mainly only see the newfangled Thing in the Ice Flip decks running around, some with Bedlam Reveler. So, is storm completely obsolete? Why? Is it simply bad in the current meta, or it is just outclassed?
Thanks.

As a player who went from traditional storm to UWR Thing ascension, I can tell you that the new version, though less explosive (not even that much on good draws), is so much more stable and resilient. You can grind and play the long game now or blast people in the early game.

It's too easy to stop, a glass cannon so to speak, but the glass is just a bit too thin. People are much more often sideboarding Surgical Extraction, Rest in Peace, Chalice of the Void and whatnot these days, and there's just so many ways to slow the deck down as well... not to mention that people automatically know what's going on once you play your first few spells. It's just too easy to stop is all...

I think Gifts Ungiven hasn't caught on yet for Storm players. It took me awhile to test it out.
It certainly makes the deck harder to pilot, but man is it more explosive. You can kill people on turn 3 more easily.
Gifts Ungiven is to Modern Storm basically what Lion's Eye Diamond + Infernal Tutor is to Legacy Storm.

WOTC worked hard to kill traditional storm, so it wouldn't be surprising that its no longer viable.

It's outclassed. They banned so many cards integral to the deck's function in Ponder, Preordain, Rite of Flame, and Seething Song that the resulting deck has simply been passed by. If you want to go off on T4, Ad Nauseam is better in almost every way.
