So was thinking of building my first modern deck and was going with a tested archetype. Was thinking infect and my question is the old UG way the best? The GB seemed interesting to me. Is there a decent budget way to build it?

UG is the best. You can budget it but the reason infect is good is the ability to win on turn 3 or 4 consistantly. Which budget versions lose the same level of access too.

the most expensive pieces are the Noble Hierarch and Inkmoth Nexus. You cannot skimp on nexus in infect, but hierarchs can be Birds of Paradise. Other than that, one singel piece of advice - never budget your manabase.

is definitely the best infect. If you want help, I think GlistenerAgent is the one to go to for Infect.

Budget means no playset of Noble Hierarch basically :)

Inkmoth Nexus MUST be in there though, the rest of the deck is pretty cheap

Can you spend 30$ a month?? In 4 months you'll have your playset Noble Hierarchs and your tier 1 deck.

Mana acceleration vs exalted trigger? I understand hierarch is the best of both but looking at budget for now I could pick up birds for cheap in UG or GB has Duty-Bound Dead for a one drop that provides exalted

UG is definitely the best. It has better evasion, card draw, and better protection of your infect dudes. GB is just basically infect control that wins either by grinding out their opponent by beating them with infect dudes or sometimes comboing off.

Also, Hierarch is the best creature in infect. Birds and Duty Bound Dead are actively bad.

U/G is absolutely the way to go between the two. Blighted Agent is just too valuable to not have, Twisted Image out of the board allows you the actually beat Spellskite, Dispel from the board allows you to actually compete with disruption plans, and the draw spells allow you to have a more consistent game play. All of those I think are way, way better than hand disruption and kill spells overall.

As for budget, kind of. Start smaller, like the mono-green build with Wild Defiance etc. Then, as you can spend the money, pick up the stuff that you can to get there. I'm currently doing the same thing building legacy enchantress, just picking up stuff where and when I can afford to and building it up over time.

There is also a similar deck that uses double strike instead of infect. Its slower, but it benefits from the frequent use of fetch & shocklands in modern.
