Life's Legacy?

Modern forum

I was intrigued by the M15 card Life's Legacy , and feel it has applications to decks in Modern. I will not post decklists, but would like to start a discussion of where this card may fit in.

So far, I have tried Life's Legacy in a Dredgevine deck (probably the most obvious place), as well as different Birthing Pod decks alongside or replacing Chord of Calling . Thoughts?

Seems decent in tron aswell. swing Wurmcoil Engine , sac it, draw 6, get 2 little wurms, party on.

The problem with sacrificing a Wurmcoil Engine to it is that you're probably winning already if you've got a Wurmcoil Engine just sitting around. There's no need to go and kill it yourself.

It's a pretty risky move to use. To draw any appreciable number of cards you really need to have a pretty large creature down, and if you have that you're already probably ahead - that makes it awkward.

This moves out of the competitive scene more but there is always creatures like Sheltering Ancient or Jotun Grunt to get more for your mana and to make it less 'win-more'.

I like it in Dredgevine, but that's about it. Anything that doesn't rely on graveyard interactions means you're just slowing down your own tempo.

As if we needed to make Remand better. Spells like this are so susceptible to counters that it just isn't worth it typically.

Also that.

Life's Legacy makes you sacrifice the creature just to cast the card. If it gets hit by Mana Leak or Remand , you're out a creature for nothing.

Literally the only time it's good is if the creature you're casting it on has a LTB effect that you need.

Only thing I could come up with is maybe Reveillark and Pod can already do this pretty well.

If it were an Instant, like Fling , it may be worthwhile. It has potential in the right deck, but I think it'll be a very niche card if so.

I was looking at all the other draw cards ...as honestly as I much as I want this thing to work it's not gonna lol Maybe it'll be a fan favorite.

I still think it could find it's place in maybe 1 or 2 Standard decks, but not as a big contender or anything. Just as a small little tool for some card advantage. I could maybe see it Mono G cast on a Voyaging Satyr or perhaps in UG cast on a Kiora's Follower late game. It's just not that worth it to cast it on a fatty unless it has some crazy LTB effect. I guess now that I think about it, Scuttling Doom Engine is a good target.

Instead of losing a fattie to draw cards, I'd rather have Garruk, Primal Hunter . He's more versatile and with Primeval Titan reads: Draw six cards and win.

Yeah, I saw this card and I thought ... Death's Shadow ? Draw 7 for 3 mana? WIN. I may use it in my build.

WHY ISN'T Life's Legacy AN INSTANT. WHY WHY WHY.

It would be so useful! Response to them Doom Blade 'ing your Tarmogoyf , Life's Legacy , draw 4.
