Looking for (virtual-/) 1-drops w/ power >=4
Modern forum

Hi folks!
So I want to see how I could capitalize more on Stubborn Denial and Ponder ing creative options.
Please suggest creatures, of any color, that could be cast for 1 mana, or less, and have or easily gain a power stat of 4 or more.
Here's what I got so far:
- Vexing Devil
- Death's Shadow
- delve creatures Gurmag Angler and the likes
- landfallers Steppe Lynx and the likes
- prowess creatures Monastery Swiftspear , Blistercoil Weird et al
- Archfiend's Vessel
- Serra Ascendant
- Slumbering Dragon
- Hollow One
+++ Edit:
- Convoke/improvise creatures
- Chandra's Incinerator
- (pseudo) evolvers Experiment One , Champion of the Parish
- Jace's Phantasm
- Pact of the Titan
- Vengevine
Levellers are off the table, they just need too much mana to pump.
Which ones am I missing? Not looking for creatures that get pumped by a specific other spell, but rather pump as I play, or get heavy cost reduction. I really need stuff that reaches power 4 quickly and/or easily and not jump through too many hoops.
Thanks in advance!

plakjekaas great find! Thank you
Really looking at all that's available right now, to narrow down a synergistic decklist from that or get inspired. Really the right kind of suggestion.

Ize19 it's a little slow, maybe too slow for my taste, but thanks for bringing it to my attention!
I see how prowess could also be deemed slow in that regard, and it kinda is.

legendofa thanks for the suggestions!
Levellers are off the table, they just need too much mana to pump.
I really need stuff that reaches power 4 quickly and/or easily, not after playing 3 more spells or paying 2+ more mana. I should have clarified that and I see how prowess creatures were likely a bad example in my OP.

You're probably going to find more reduced-cost creatures, then, and you got a lot of the best ones. How about Ghoultree , Ancient Stone Idol , Tazri, Beacon of Unity , Marshmist Titan , or Khalni Hydra ? (I'd like to see the deck that runs both of the last two.)

The thing is, I'm looking to quickly and easily have Stubborn Denial online. While your suggestions technically meet the criteria I listed, they require a developed board already and that's a big drawdown in this specific case.

I understand. I'm not sure you're going to find anything more efficient, with fewer hoops to jump through, than Hollow One or Vexing Devil . It's an interesting deck idea, and there has to be a way to make it work. Good luck!

legendofa thanks again!
Even if the cards you suggested are likely going to the 'no' pile, I still appreciate the help! Gives me a better understanding of what I actually do want in the first place and why.

Vengevine would work, even if it has little synergy with some of the other cards.

Flooremoji jepp, forgot about that one... definitely belongs on the list. More on the difficult to pull off side, but unique enough to be on the radar. Thanks!

I mean, Denial is online during turns 1-3 or even until turn 4, but it does largely depend on the opponent's deck. You only need a 4+ power creature that can come into play at around turn 3-4, which is incredibly easy.
For instance, Lovestruck Beast . Or any of several hundred creatures.

TriusMalarky that's why I'm looking for the cards I'm asking for, so I can possibly have it online T2. There is method to my madness and I'm obviously aware there are 2+ mana creatures that do the job, but I just wanted to see if I missed any good/fringe cheaper ones

Erm . . . I'm not sure if I got the right piece of info through, so let me clarify just in case
Denial counters basically everything(noncreature) if cast t1, and it is very likely to counter things turn 2-3. You can drop a 4+ power creature t3, and then protect it with Denial. Granted, Denial is best with cheap big things, but that's because its role is often " Turn Aside for your Shadow, but with the upside of hitting a lot more relevant things".
Really, I would be using Denial as a way to keep my opponents from killing my big thing in Modern, meaning that technically, you can still just use Spell Pierce in the same spot.
But I guess you just want big things to go with denial, in which case look at https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=cmc%3D1+legal%3Amodern+pow%3E%3D4 , https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=cmc%3D2+legal%3Amodern+pow%3E%3D4, https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=oracle%3Adelve+type%3Acreature+legal%3Amodern
If you're simply looking to be able to counter spells for 1 mana in Modern, Spell Pierce , Spell Snare , Miscast , Annul , and Mystical Dispute are all variants on that effect.
If you want to build with Denial and a big creature, Grixis Death's Shadow is a great deck.
If you're trying to protect a reasonable sized creature, any cool low cmc creature plus any counterspell is fine.
What is it specifically you want to do?

There is a reason my request was so specific TriusMalarky.

I think dredgevine with stubborn denial seems plausible, but that deck doesn't need counterspells.

Chandra's Incinerator might not fit the deck you're trying to make, but it's a possible 1 mana 6/6, thought I should suggest it.
