The two way split between splitter twins and abzan in the modern format? Mostly all the modern tournaments have been abzan top 8's it's crazy. It's like theirs a new teledad in the modern format..... Inb4 Seige rhino banning....N bring back PoD
Rhino won't be banned. It's not even close to being broken. I think the meta is healthy.

It's just so annoying that a format like modern can be smashed by a card like siege rhino...
I remember when I was going to start playing people would tell me "dude modern is a chaos format that ends In the 5 turns"
I was like sht that sounds like some tough shit... But then I heard one of my standard cards can compete and throw modern decks around like rag dolls... Huh just goes to show...
But anyways I'm all for that banning simply because I wanna see other things top. If it never happens meh I guess it's ok. Notice no top 8 golgari grave troll.... Hype derailed...

All the pod players went to play abzan aggro and are still seeing a high success rate...I don't see the problem. It made the metagame healthier while not totally wrecking anybody.
As far as the rhino goes, meh. It is a good card...it's a very good card. But it's not the sole reason the deck wins...hence Birhting Pod. The pod was the enabler. Now the card has to enable itself. It can be countered. Life gain can be prevented in just about every color. And yes, it still dies to Doom Blade.

IndepenentMeta: Rhino rides on the shoulders of giants. Namely, Tarmogoyf. If you've got a deck with 4 rhinos and no goyf, you don't got shit.

Adding onto what I said above...what slovakattack said as well. And Liliana of the Veil.
February 10, 2015 12:16 a.m.
InnerFlame actually siege rhino doesn't die to doom blade. Unless that was more a reference of it dies to simple removal in general, Go for the Throat on the other hand handles the rhino quite well.

Lol true goyf is a badass.
But still man it's kinda like abzan has way to much fire power now. With goyf, rhino, and tasigur. It's like an all star trio on that deck

InnerFlame: false, rhino does not die to Doom Blade. Go for the Throat sure, but the classic doom blade argument needs tweaked in this case. And there was an "abzan" deck this weekend that was literally a pod deck full of the same creatures just minus pod and it made top 8. Take that for what it's worth.

BGx has always been great. Before Abzan, it was Jund, with Bloodbraid Elf. It kinda got shut out by Pod, but Pod itself was essentially Abzan with a tutor.

What did a deck like that look like man I'm curious?

haha nice catch dan8080 and mathimus55....it dies to removal, are we all happy now? haha.
and yeah, mathimus55, like I said...all the pod players just went to play abzan aggro and are still seeing a mass amount of success. Sympathy for them, absent.

I wouldn't be too afraid of abzan taking over the meta. I don't think it put up a great showing at the pro tour. Yeah it had 3 decks in the top 8, but it was also 30% of that meta. Splintertwin was a much smaller percentage and had 2 decks in the top 8. I think the pro tour showed that abzan is beatable, and that combo isn't dead in modern. I think within a few months we will see abzan decks fall closer to 20% of the meta, and see some new decks rise up to tier 1 status.

Ohhh, alright. Well it has red in it so I can tell you already that it's f'n awesome. Here's something about the junk deck...it has a couple banned cards if that gives you a bit of an idea as well.

They tended to look something similar to this IndepenentMeta, this is a list from Pro Tour RTR.
February 10, 2015 1:23 a.m.
Except, after watching the video tech, they also were running 4 copies of Deathrite Shaman and Jund Charm was copies of Abrupt Decay

I think that while Siege Rhino is good, he is nowhere near strong enough to warrant banning (But then again neither was Dig Through Time and look what wizards did to that!) and that while Junk is very popular, the meta is healthy.

IndepenentMeta says... #27
Yeah dig through time got flipped real quick. I'm actually surprised man there's some other combos in the game that are truly broken but this is the one they hit.... Ugh that's what happens when a bunch of collectors have a say in the banned list I guess

IndepenentMeta says... #28
I haven't seen a splitter deck play is that worth watching?
February 10, 2015 9:07 a.m.
IndepenentMeta I wouldn't really say there is any combos or synergistic strategies in modern that are truly broken... I wouldn't even say that Dig Through Time is extremely broken, nor do I agree with the official statement as to why it was banned. However that being said I think that DTT being banned is probably good for the meta. I ONLY say this because in a post-ban world in which Birthing Pods no longer run rampant combo decks like Twin and Scapeshift got better, if they STILL had Dig I can only imagine how much harder those games would be to win for the more attrition midrange decks would be, Scapeshift especially because it only needs to resolve one spell with enough lands to win. Wizards lets combo be a thing in eternal formats, thats kind of hard to completely kill without pissing off half their player base, but they like people casting creatures and doing that thing called combat a lot more. Banning Dig supports that creature based meta far more.
February 10, 2015 9:13 a.m.
Absolutely welcome, and Twin is an interesting deck to watch to a degree. All its aiming to do is play a midrange burn deck that can "Surprise, I win!" using Pestermite + Splinter Twin or Deceiver Exarch + Splinter Twin which is powerful, but its game ending when it goes off. So not a ton to watch except them assembling combo or enough burn to win, still worth watching a couple times to understand it if you plan to play any level of competitive modern.

So like just detain everything then go for the attack? Is that the win condition?
O also check it out I might start a few modern circuits myself with

No, more like Splinter Twin on either Pestermite or Deceiver Exarch = infinite tokens. Pestermite and Exarch both say when they come into play you can untap a permanent, Twin lets you tap to make a copy of the creature its on. Tap make pestermite token with haste ETB trigger, untap original Pestermite. Go again, again and again. Heres a link to a dech tech from PT FRF.

Interesting to note that abzan is currently more popular than delver was during the weeks of treasure cruise but everyone is insisting 'the meta is healthy'. So...... It's unhealthy when it's blue thats dominating but fine when it's not?
February 10, 2015 3:09 p.m.
IndepenentMeta says... #35
O yeah lol well that helps I wouldn't have figured it out otherwise so infinite tokens then one big attack or am I missing something else, I didn't play splinter twins when RTR was out
February 10, 2015 3:55 p.m.
IndepenentMeta says... #36
Agreed with chief but slightly disagree.
My best guess for them saying the meta is heathy is because people kinda like the fact that you don't have to go infinite or bust out some real gimmicky stuff like a turn 3 5/5 to top at a modern event. Rather just play a bunch of good toolbox cards. In the newest archtype. I think it's pretty ok too.
But yeah man they should prolly bring back cruise or dig. This kinda game giving people a semi limit (2 per deck) would add some fennis to the game. Like if I guess splitter twin decks can run 2x dig through time. Or just bring back one of those to cards so it doesn't destroy the decks but balances them out with the other ones ;D
