Melira Pod resurgence?

Modern forum

Collected Company is a huge boost to Melira Pod decks, does anyone else think this could become a thing. It hits every piece but Murderous Redcaps, so I can see someone casting Collected eot on an opponent, hitting Melira and Viscera Seer, then casting redcaps and winning. With Birds this is an easy turn 4 combo deck.

Pod is banned. I'm not quite sure how you're running a Pod deck anymore.

Except Birthing Pod is banned in modern?

Collected Company isn't going to bring back pod. Melira combo was only good because it was so versatile in it's timing. With pod, you COULD turn 3 combo, but you usually get disrupted a little more than that. the fact that you could dig through your deck for any answer was what made the deck work. hell, by the end, most pod decks weren't even running Melira; they were running Archangel of Thune and Spike Feeder, as it was less likely to die to burn, and didn't use the graveyard.

Podless pod is bad, and no, podless pod is NOT abzan.

Collected Company's home is probably Zoo. It's a great turn 3-4 card for the deck. It'll maybe see some play in some tier 3-4 combo decks, but for now that's where it'll stay.

Melira Pod Collected Company doth not make. I think we've seen a few threads on this, but my opinion is that Collected Company absolutely has the power level to see modern play but it doesn't have the consistency to be a new-found pod deck. I can see it being something more along the lines of like Hatebears or / good stuff. Maybe a one or two of in Zoo? I don't see a resurgence of Melira with this card though.

Um, you're a little late. Pod is banned.

Calling it Melira Combo would help to clean up the confusion.

There's a reason why Congregation at Dawn has shot up to $3-4 from .75 cents. Certainly it's not as good as Birthing Pod, but T1 mana dork, T2 end of turn Congregation at Dawn pieces you don't have , T3 Collected Company, T4 combo isn't that awful.

The issue that that you're forced to play it like an all-in combo deck and the reason why Melira Pod was so dominate was that it got to play as a grindy mid-range deck that could "opps, I win" itself out of a tough match-up or from behind.

I can see a Melira combo, running Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, Melira, Murderous Redcap, Kitchen Finks, Collected Company and Congregation at Dawn with the black splash for Redcap and hand disruption to protect the combo like Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek. That could be decent.

I like how everybody was like, "Pod is banned!!!"

The Redcap does still have plenty of potential here.

You still have Chord of Calling that Pod used to run as a 3of in the olden times(about 8 months ago) and with Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit being an actual good version of melira the deck might see a resurgence in a new way thanks to Collected Company.

It might be more of an Aristocrat style value deck with combo potential then before. But there is an option for a fast combo or just some really big value plays.

No, it would be all-in combo and really bad. The best combo decks contain disruption and bide their time. The worst ones try to combo out turns 1, 2, 3 and have no contingency plan. Modern is not a format for all-in combo (notice how Twin, and Scapeshift both include lots of disruption?) due to the very high prevalence of cheap counters and removal. They're included to stop exactly this sort of thing from happening. Pod worked simply because it didn't need to combo - it was happy to just bash you in the face. When you're sitting on T3 with absolutely no board presence, you'll see the problem.

... and Melira, Viscera Seer, Cartel Aristocrat, Chord of calling, well a lot of things.

Yeh, so they've rammed a combo and some tutors into a junk deck. When I said "with CCompany" I probably should have written "with a complete CCompany package"

Storm is sort of an all in combo and it doesn't contain much disruption. It does well. And it is relativly consistent with at least a turn 4-5 win.

Meh. It kind of does well. It's not a driving force in the meta. In fact probably the only 'all-in' combo that's prevalent is.... I think amulet bloom.
