Modern FNM issue

So has anyone else had this problem? As soon as Modern Masters came out, all the shops near me stopped hosting Modern FNM. Is there a reason for this? it's frustrating that the closest shop that hosts it is over an hour away and I have recently finished a cool modern deck i want to take.
My shop is talking about proxy allowed unsanctioned modern tournaments for cheap prizes. MM drafts still available too, its DA modern fever I tells ya.

Damn. Cheap prizes? We just did one for a judge foil dark confidant and pack support... I was like, oh my Jesus... Now the owner is talking about a foil Goyf modern tourney. We don't allow proxies though, unless its legacy, then there a 20 cent tax on each proxy you have on top of the tourney fee.

Packs... 5$ entry so yeah. Thing is here is a small town with out a bunch of cards flowing... So trading is limited for top tier decks. MM has help A LOT but some fetches are impossible to get unless you import them, if you didn't get them the first time around. I haven't seen a Thoughtseize in a binder and if you don,'t have modern cards hard to get anyways. Things like this are why we allow proxies.
Prizes being packs not expensive cards.

I am so envious of you all. I mean, right before MM all the shops near me were doing Modern FNM, but as soon as release came, they all stopped. :/

There may be a slew of reasons why shops would stop doing Modern FNMs. I've found popular reasons why shops have stopped intermittently.
1) For a short while (especially shortly after a release), they would like to reserve their MM product for limited formats rather than use them as prize support or like-wise fuel their local market into buying those packs without making more money through draft them. Allowing for the modern format to open up would mean that more people are inclined to buy the boosters rather than draft them.
2) Additionally, different PTQ seasons have different formats. The current/upcoming Pro Tour Theros PTQ's are Standard. Since this will not be a modern season, shops tend to hold the trend along with what Wizards wants us to explore in the design space. FNM's are great places to test deck ideas. If the PTQ season is standard, why not give the players someplace every week to test, play, and enjoy the Standard format.

3) There were a large group of players at the local shop who have expressed interest and intent in playing a different sanctioned format. Large influx of new players tend to happen during Summer and Winter seasons; as people come home from school/universities, younger players have time off from school, etc - these people may want to play other formats than what the store regularly plays with it's regulars but the sheer numbers of them for the few months that they are around may influence how the store best hosts.
4) Just coincidence and the store wanted to spice things up with a change of flavor.
In short though, I'm pretty jealous - Modern is not a big format around my area. FNMs are limited or standard here - we do have modern tournaments every week, but it would very interesting to have modern FNMs as there tends to be junkier brews and all that said I think will help develop the meta.

Yeah. I am in Fayetteville, NC. There is about 60,000 military people there, me included. Then there is the local population. The shop itself is pretty big in regards to player base, a few of which are pro level winners from the past. So pretty much the shop just does whatever we ask them... Which is funny, because whenever there is any kind of SCG event in the area we are required to wear a shop shirt. The owner gives away free shit all the time, for instance, I filmed a monthly shop update for the guy to put on the shops Facebook page, and he gave me a bunch of packs of dragons maze, a play set of foil punishing fires and a Linvala, keeper of silence. He knew that if he paid any other filter it would run him a grand for one hour of taping, and I told him I would do it for free...
In conclusion, it's a big shop and big player base. Homeboy pretty much appeases to us.

Our local shop tried to do Modern one week a month, they had a decent turnout once. Then it diminished severely over several attempts. All they really did was chase away players who only had standard decks. Modern is no more here.

I have the benefit of living right in between two close cities (Washington and Baltimore), and there are a lot of decent LGS's around here. So I don't have a problem finding a Modern FNM generally, though I might have to sift through all the different stores to see who's playing what.
That being said, if I lived in a place that had any one of these LGS's available, I might get Modern FNM and I might not. Some of them run quite a bit. Some of them don't run any at all. It very much seems to be at the whim of the owner/playerbase.
Even then...one LGS that runs only Standard FNM is doing a Modern tourney in a couple weeks on a Sunday. First prize is a playset of Thoughtseize , and even T8 is a pair of fetchlands. That's worth a few FNM's.

My shop is the opposite... They got the modern fever.
