I was wondering how long sets stay in modern.

I was also wondering when the sets New Phyrexia, Timeshifted, and Mirrodin Besieged rotate out of modern.

Thanks!

Things don't rotate out of Modern. You're thinking of Standard or Extended that things rotate out of.

Modeen is 'non-rotating', so bothing leaves it.

Cards never rotate out of Modern. It's a bit of a hybrid format really- nothing rotates like in Standard, but not every card printed is legal either like in Legacy or Vintage. Only cards printed from 8th Edition to present-day Journey into Nyx are legal in Modern, and barring a ban like with Deathrite Shaman , will be Modern legal forever.

They only get banned but never leave otherwise.

Things never get "kicked out of modern." It doesn't rotate. Every card 8th edition onward will always be legal unless it gets banned.

Cards printed in Standard-legal blocks and Core Sets are immediately introduced into Modern.

Individual cards that are deemed too powerful for the Modern metagame are occasionally banned from the format.

Cards printed in supplementary products, like Conspiracy or the Commander precons are not Modern-legal unless they have also been printed in a Standard-legal set.

Sets in Modern never rotate out. That is the point of an ETERNAL FORMAT. It is good because you don't have to keep buying new cards like standard.

awesomeguy37 I'm pretty sure Modern isn't an eternal format. The eternal formats are Vintage and Legacy, in which every card ever printed (excluding banned cards) is legal, even ones from supplemental products.

The debate over whether Modern qualifies as Eternal or not is kind of pointless. Like Vintage and Legacy, sets do not rotate out of Modern. But unlike Vintage and Legacy, only expert expansions from 8th Edition on are Legal in Modern (No Commander or Planechase cards for you!).

tl:dr - sets that are Modern legal will continue to be Modern legal forever.

TitansFTW EDH and Pauper are also both Eternal formats. But, like you said, Modern is not.

JWiley129 it's not pointless because eternal means ANY card ever printed (except banned cards) is legal. That's big because of supplemental products. Modern is simply a non-rotating format.

gufymike - I'm just tired of this debate happening every time someone says it. when the point is, whatever is Modern legal will continue to be Modern legal for the rest of time. Much like how whatever is Legacy/Vintage legal will continue to be Legacy/Vintage legal for the rest of time.

It's my opinion that it's pointless. Enough said.

no debate needed ... modern is not listed as an eternal format.

Also, timeshifted was not a set. The set was Time Spiral, and some of the cards in that set (eg. Lord of Atlantis )are timeshifted cards because they were reprints, reprinted with the old frame, and many of them are unlikely to be reprinted again (in a Standard-legal expansion).
