Modern Mardu - Crackling Doom

Is this modern playable if one is building a homebrew Mardu Modern deck?
Mardu's kinda in a rough spot. There isn't too many reasons to want to play the wedge. They also have access to path/bolt/helix, which is a damn good removal package as is. I'm also not a big fan of the fact that it's conditional an has very specific mana costs. It's quite telegraphed once people know you're running it but could have decent surprise value 1st cast. I dunno, maaaaybe a 1 or 2 of at most, and that's assuming you have some compelling reason not to play a different combination of colors.

It's a sideboard option against Boggle and Infect (If you can live that long]. I have a homebrew with an AMAZING track record if you'd like to check it out. I've been working a long time on it.
Terminate is a much better Mainboard option or maybe even Slaughter Pact
Also i've found Leyline of Sanctity paired with Kor Firewalker counteracts those combo decks just fine.

I think VA's got it above, sideboard against someone you who has a creature you can't kill directly. Or maybe is someone throws out an indestructible or Emrakul (cause if they've got Emrakul AND something bigger you probably should've swiped :p)

Slippery Bogles aside, most of modern would prefer Liliana of the Veil or Geth's Verdict or even Smallpox and Cruel Edict or Tribute to Hunger over Crackling Doom
That being said, I think Crackling Doom is bad ass flavor-wise & functionality wise even if it's not the most modern playable.

APPLE01DOJ the reason Doom is better is a small line of text that is often unseen "with the greatest power" this semi removes the opponents choice. It gets around them using other creatures to protect for the edict :P this makes it waaaaay stronger than most sac outlets in modern. It's just that it's not often needed to win the game

I'm with VampireArmy. This card doesn't register as a sac card in my mind. It's somewhere between targeted removal and sacrificing.

I don't see why not, but the mana cost could be an issue. Plus, Mardu decks haven't really performed that well in the past. There are a few decks the card is dead against (Storm, ad nauseum, Scapeshift) but it could put in some work in the creature match ups.
