Mono Red prison with the state of the format?

Sup guys,

I love playing red, but Burn has become less and less enjoyable over the past few months, with the addition of Collective Brutality and Knight of Autumn to the format. Also, Arclight Phoenix-based decks are almost faster than burn. All of that makes Burn not a great choice anymore IMO.

I've been looking at Mono Red Prison for a while, but I'd like to have your opinions on the deck.

It seems like a lot of fun to pilot, but also very clunky. Do you have (or know anyone who does) experience with the deck? Is it a good choice in such a fast meta (hardened scales, Arclight decks, Dredge)?

RW Prison IMO is better, you get Deafening Clarion with GRN, as well as Justice Strike, a burn spell that is great against Gurmag Anglers and giant Arcbound Ravagers. Otherwise you have great cards like Blood Moon and Ensnaring Bridge, Chalice of the Void, Stony Silence, Rest in Peace, etc.

With the growing presence/popularity of lifegain shenanigans Leyline of Punishment might not be too far fetched to give a whirl.

Otherwise if your playing in a meta where Chalice of the Void shines then I would check out ChannelFireball's Deck of the day. It seems to be far from clunky with a lot of great synergies!

But if Chalice doesnt really fit the bill for the most part and your like me and the thought of being mono red without Lightning Bolt makes you wanna scream then maybe Skred Red would be a good middle ground? Skred is incredible for spot removal and has a pretty small shell for lot of substitutions to fit your needs.

I know I've read these articles already, and watched quite a lot of footage too but I'm just wondering if the deck is good enough to invest or trade into those Chalices and Chandras. I know I would love to play this type of deck but I'm kind of on a budget right now :)

I like Skred Red too (because Lightning Bolt = indeed ;)), my only problem with this deck is that you have to use the Snow lands and they look ugly imo :)

Honestly I cant really fault you for not liking how a card looks TBH... I intentionally try to keep my decks using cards between Mirridion/Tenth Edition and M14/Theros solely because I want all my boarders to match even with some recent-ish strictly-ish better cards like Wrap in Vigor vs Heroic Intervention because i cant stand those shiny sticker thingies on the rares/the computer font.
