Most effectively combatting the meta-game

Modern forum

So in my area, a Modern tournament is being held this weekend. I do not know what deck to run, however. The expected meta includes, but is not limited to:

  • Splinter Twin

  • Gifts Control

  • Naya Monsters

  • Mardu Midrange

  • RG Infect

  • Mono White Weenies

  • Izzet Aggro

  • Homebrews

So what should I run? Assume I have access to most cards.

To be honest that sounds like a pretty balanced meta. I think running GBX midrange gives you your best shot, you'll have good kill spells for the creature based decks, and good sideboard cards for the others.

No burn? Run abzan. Beats twin fairly easily. Has bigger beasties than Mardu and removal to disrupt their threats. Against Naya, again you have your own efficient threats and a better removal suite to take care of theirs. You'll struggle against infect but abrupt decay is a winner in that match and damnation does weenies.

Burn. Because if you dont know what to expect you are never wrong with burn. And it also looks good against most on that list. I like that you added homebrew to the list :)

Net deck Junk with 2-4x Abrupt Decay and 3-4 Path to Exile in the main deck, sideboarding Darkblast(s) and miscellaneous control hate, as the Splinter Twin and Gifts Control matchups are about even and the Infect matchup you need to be able to easily interact with on turn one.

B/G/x is the way to go. Looking at the list, all the decks except gifts control and splinter twin are creature based, so your kill spells will almost never be dead in hand, and your stuff will out class there stuff in the matchups

I've found GBx to be fantastic against twin. Abrupt decay kills pester mite and deceiver exarch and can't be countered. Your own threats are fairly efficiently costed so their counter spells don't make you lose tempo.

One of the times where playing Abzan is not making the meta crowded with Rhinos.

Oh, and a UWR (Jeskai) Control deck. I thank you guys for your opinions.

I was gonna suggest Jeskai Control or Blue Moon, Control gets significantly better if you know the metagame, Most of the decks mentioned are fairly soft to Blood Moon.

That being said I may be bias when asking for suggestions.

I wouldn't play Burn, In small metagames it is often targeted quite heavily. Most of the decks you mentioned can access some of the best hate cards against Burn.

GBx is probably your best option for reasons people have already mentioned.

Burn...I'm a little bias...but I never go into a game while playing burn going, wow...I'm going to get destroyed.

Seems like something fast would be good. Some sort of Aggro... Naya Little Zoo? I'm not too good at this so don't take me seriously. All I ever play is Budget Bogles
