Well i played a modern friday night magic last night and to say the least i did somewhat decent with my mazes end deck until i came across another player that was rolling with a mono black discard deck that was built around liliana the veil. Now i have a mono black deck that is all about leeching the opponents life, but found his deck a lot better than mine and more tactical. Some of his cards.
Planes Walker: Liliana the veil, i dont know how many, but i would assume 3 to 4. Artifact:The rack and would assume 4 as well. Enchantment: Shrieking Afflicting and assume 4. Sorcery: Despise, ravens crime and assume 2 or 3 each. Creature: Deathrite shaman and assume 4. I never really saw that many cards considering the match didn't last very long. He also had a card that may have been an enchantment that made me discard 1 card from my hand each turn and was wondering what that card would be if anyone knew. I think it was a enchantment card considering The Rack was the only card he played as an artifact.. Plus a couple lands that he could sacrafice to add a swamp(but i think i could just use evolving wilds would do).
I was considering making a mono black discard with using the cards i described at the top plus some of these cards as well like: milestone, lilianas caress, underworld dreams, quest of nihil stone, and wrench mind. If anyone could give me some feedback i would be most appreciative.
Here are a few that I have used in the past that are useful with discarding:
Sangromancer
- Easy way to gain life.
Geth's Grimoire
- More cards for you.
Liliana's Caress
and Megrim
- You mentioned the former, but I don't think the latter. More hurt for discarding.
Abyssal Nocturnus
- Gives a creature you can use that is boosted if you force them to discard.

I've currently got a discard deck that isn't quite mono black, but you could take out the red and it would still function. Check it out here.
The general gist in your post is about right; you want an MBC base, modified to support discard. You should try to make them discard as much as possible then drop The Rack or Shrieking Affliction whilst keeping their board and hand under control before waiting for the kill.
