New archetype being played?

Hey guys,
So yesterday I was at a modern tournament at some local place, and, well, let's just say that the meta was pretty disgusting. I was one of the only players there playing more than one color, to put it lightly.
Regardless of how many times I played burn (4 out of 6 rounds), I saw one really interesting deck there being run to pretty good success. I wanted to call it Mono Green devotion, but I don't think that it ran any plans that included devotion.
In round 4, I played against this guy, and he had one of the most perfect curves i've ever seen. Experiment One into Kalonian Tusker into Leatherback Baloth into another Kalonian Tusker with a Rancor into Khalni Hydra ... It was nuts. Other cards I saw him use were Treetop Village , Aspect of Hydra and whichever hydra was in M13. My Abrupt Decay s were just no match.
After talking to him after the round, apparently he got his list off of MTGTop8. Is this deck a thing that people play now? And if it is, is it a threat? I know it can be rather explosive, but I didn't see enough of the list to know whether or not I should be concerned about it. What're your thoughts on this mono green beatdown archetype in Modern?

It was pretty similar, but seemed to be a lot more tuned to take on midrange decks. After following him around rounds 5 and 6, I didn't see any pump spells out of him save the one copy of Aspect that he played on me; it was just creature rancor beatdown.

Is the deck called Mono Green Beats? I've seen a few decent lists. It's alright Aggro, but not as good/fast as RDW or Affinity.
I think the archetype could have potential if it were more of a midrange/ramp deck with lifegain to stall. Perhaps with a white splash for added utility.

Seems to me to be a worse version of RDW. You start to run into problems when you play aggro decks with 0 potential for keeping the board clear. It could run into serious problems against people who've sideboarded against that kind of stuff.
Opponent throws out Khalni Hydra .
"Oh, that's cute."
throws out Wurmcoil Engine
With no kind of removal utility, the game more often than not ends there.
Sounds like he just got a crazy good hand, really :P
That being said, splashing in some other colors for utility could indeed be helpful. If he was doing mono-green devo and splashed red for Kessig Wolf Run , for example...

Yeah, Mono-Green aggro won a Bazaar of Moxen event and some people have started to play it. It's the worst aggro deck, but what it has going for it are perfect mana as well as some really efficient creatures. I wouldn't worry about it.

No goyfs in that list? WAH? I mean, it probably wouldn't be a good 4 of, but placing in fetches, maybe splashing a colour, among other things would make lil' goyf much better than a Kalonian Tusker .
And I'm also really surprised infect is gaining popularity. I thought it was like, more-fringe-than-RDW, in that new players really liked to play (cheap-cheap-cheap) it but it had little to no impact against the better decks.

Those standings may be for MTG online, which is a bit different as folks tend to build cheap decks to power through matches and gain points, tokens, or what have you.

I should try out MTG online and play my Kor Legions deck then. See how well they have to deal with 6 7/7 tokens flying at them in the early game :D

Is it this deck?
I don't think it's a threat :D
