New Card - Myth Realised

Modern forum

Now obviously this card isn't game breaking but I think it's pretty great. It may be good in something like Delver, or perhaps UWR control.

In some ways it shares certain characteristics with Tarmogoyf:

  • They both cost ludicrously little mana to cast.

  • They both become threats naturally over time, as you play the game.

  • For the most part, they both are removed by spells that cost either the same, or more mana. Granting no immediate tempo advantage to the opponent.

However on the other hand; this card takes time to get big, and therefore it gives the opponent time to plan. It can be ruined by any 'return to hand' effect. It's also a bad top deck.

What do you guys think? Modern playable? T1, T1.5, T2? Or just bad?

bijschjdbcd, Well that's too bad. We don't take too kindly to "sinicism" around here.

March 12, 2015 7:32 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #6

Well we are talking about the card from a competitive perspective vishnarg, Therefore "cynicism" is the angle I will take to assess it

March 12, 2015 8:18 p.m.

square711 if you want to block with it you need to keep the open, which means that you are back a turn.

The other thing this guy has against him is that no deck in the modern meta has a slot for him. Maybe esper gifts, but I don't play that deck at all so I don't know. UW control usually uses Geist, and I could see this guy replacing delver is UW builds, but other than that, he is homeless.

+10 points to the first person to put this in an Enduring Ideal deck :)

JexInfinite says... #8

I think it could be very powerful in UWR Geist, but control is probably not the right home for it. I don't really know. I much prefer Tasigur, the Golden Fang as a finisher, but in straight UWR, you could force it.

JexInfinite says... #9

Delver is a good shell for it. Play UWR Delver.

I was thinking long and hard about this card. This could be the backup win condition in a UWR control deck. I'm not talking Geist midrange, I'm talking the full on, playset of Cryptic Command control decks. 2 of these alongside a playset of Celestial Colonnades would give the deck more ways to win, and it seems like it can get very big over the course of 7 or 8 turns. Plus if it's drawn late game, control decks would love to pour excess mana into lore counters, because you can do it at the end of their turn and leave all resources open to react to their turn. Just my two cents.

vishnarg says... #11

Plus it would be a great blocker in that matchup. A potential 5/5 or 6/6 blocker for only one white mana would ward off Tarmogoyfs and Siege Rhinos, especially because you can activate it and grow it as you play other spells. I think the only real downfall of this card is Abrupt Decay, but even that is a tempo loss on the opponents part that buys you more time. I would probably play this over Geist.

I think this is a sleeper card. Woefully under appreciated by most - until it appears in top 8 and everyone's like 'oh shit'

slovakattack says... #13

I've been brewing with it a little bit. What do you guys think of: U/W Mentor Control?

Would it be better with black as well? (adding in thoughtseize, Tasigur, lingering souls, perhaps a 1 of Zealous Persecution)

March 13, 2015 1:19 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #14

Ive been playing it in legacy in a Uwr deck similar to rug delver. its actuallly been pretty good.

March 13, 2015 2:31 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #15

If they're still priced pretty low at prerelease, I'll be sure to snap as many as I can.

March 13, 2015 3:22 p.m.

slovakattack says... #16

I honestly think it's better in legacy than in Modern. Pretty much forces your opponent to FoW it at match start if they don't have an Abrupt Decay handy, which is pretty useful against things like Miracles.

March 13, 2015 3:24 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #17

yeah its really good with daze, force of will and gitaxian probe. plus with stifle, burn spells and swords to plowshars he gets really out of hand. i have been playing him alongside young pyromancer and delver and he has been great. i tried monestary mentor but 3 mana is rough. if anyone else brews up a deck i would love to take a look.

March 13, 2015 4:20 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #18

Boros or Mardu control running mentor and this? Plus like a single stormbreath or hellkite? I'd take that. VampireArmy

March 13, 2015 4:32 p.m.

slovakattack says... #19

What do you think about this card in Skred, ChiefBell? An alt. wincon was always something that Skred kinda lacked...

March 13, 2015 4:37 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #20

Mentor too slow. I'm using pyro for that reason. This might do ok. It's a that that i can grow quickly or dump my mana into it when I'm in durdle mode which can happen. All in all I'd rather this be a land with a higher activation cost but It's test worthy

March 13, 2015 4:37 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #21

I'd out it in skred. I love skred.

March 13, 2015 4:39 p.m.

slovakattack says... #22

This could be the thing that puts Skred on the map, you know. It was always sort of fringe-playable.

If they can't get rid of the Myth Realized, the the value output of your burn spells become absolutely gigantic. Countering them doesn't slow the deck down as much anymore, b/c you still get value from Myth. Removal spells are expended to nuke Myth as an early threat, leaving little in the way to stop a finisher like Stormbreath or Thundermaw. It's Goyf for Skred.

March 13, 2015 4:42 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #23

I love skred too. Boros midrange ftw

March 13, 2015 4:43 p.m.

Jojja says... #24

I'm looking to try it out in my Esper Midrange/Control deck. I think it's going to be great, and if nothing else it's a ticking time bomb that will tax your opponents Decay's.

March 13, 2015 4:56 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #25

I feel like trying it in Affinity, but then I feel like it'd be a lot like that TarmoAffinity deck. Without the Tarmos.

March 13, 2015 5:01 p.m.

vishnarg says... #26

What about that Boros enchantment deck sporting Enduring Ideal that's been popping up in top 8s recently? This would be gross in that deck as a much cheaper win condition than Assemble the Legion...

March 13, 2015 5:04 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #27

Maaaaybe that deck is hard to pilot though

March 13, 2015 5:07 p.m.

Skred is great. Run this guy, Seeker of the Way (who can't die to pyrcolasm) the reckoners, and a few stormbreath/thundermaws. That could be very interesting.

Speaking of Skred, can we get a snow land reprint soon? $1.6 is far too much to pay for a basic land.

March 13, 2015 6:32 p.m.

I wonder how this would do in the less Aggro, Abzan Legacy and Modern builds...

March 13, 2015 9:35 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #30

You know, this could be used in a more midrange oriented Abzan build. You'd have 10 creatures, goyf, rhino, and 2 tasigurs, and 4 of these. These would help strengthen your goyfs should they get removed, and you have plenty of lilis and discard and removal and Lingering Souls to pump it up at least 4 times.

I'mma try it out.

March 13, 2015 9:42 p.m.

Great minds think alike, Femme ;-)

March 13, 2015 9:50 p.m.

sigh. The last thing junk needed was yet another powerhouse.

March 13, 2015 9:52 p.m.

You know what this reminds me of? Bloodhall Ooze. You know what card isn't good in Modern? Bloodhall Ooze.

March 13, 2015 10:02 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #34

You know what doesn't rely on you have a board presence? Myth Realized. Requiring a board presence is sort of what makes Bloodhall Ooze difficult to play. That and it dies to bolt way too easily.

March 13, 2015 10:48 p.m.

Maybe Scute Mob would be a good analogy?

March 14, 2015 12:55 a.m.

again Scute Mob dies to 3/3 of the most common removal spells in moder:Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt, and Abrupt Decay. Myth Realized dies to 1 of these. 2 if u choose to animate.

March 14, 2015 1 a.m.

VampireArmy says... #37

It's not really co comparable to either. This card is a one mana investment that grows from doing the things you would naturally do in tempo decks. It requires no extra effort to grow then attacks when you have the window of opportunity.

March 14, 2015 1:07 a.m.

EvenDryke says... #38

The other thing people have to keep in mind when comparing this to Scute Mob, Quirion Dryad, Bloodhall Ooze and others is that they are all very easy to remove from the get go. Since this is an enchantment until you animate it, you can wait until you have a good window where you can reasonably protect it. And like others have said - game 1 you really only have to worry about Abrupt Decay since nobody runs enchantment hate mainboard.

March 15, 2015 1:15 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #39

Yeh. It's really good.

Do I invest at $5 each?

March 15, 2015 1:19 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #40

I am going to pick up a playset. It may turn out really good, it may not pick up steam, but i know im playing it.

March 15, 2015 1:33 p.m.

square711 says... #41

ChiefBell: is that even a question? Go get 'em. I sure will.

On a side note, seems like people are already trying to break this thing with Isochron Scepter and rebound. Two lore counters per turn, plus whatever the exiled card does (twice!), for 2 mana of any color. Thoughts?

March 15, 2015 1:37 p.m.

vishnarg says... #42

I can't see this card holding any value over $3 after it rotates out of standard. But it may be part of some crazy Jeskai deck there so $5 isn't the worst buy ever...

March 15, 2015 1:46 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #43

people will try it in legacy guaranteed.

March 15, 2015 2:01 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #44

And modern.

March 15, 2015 2:01 p.m.

slovakattack says... #45

ChiefBell: Whoever tells you that Myth Realized isn't bonkers is full of shit. In Modern, it's the closest thing that Jeskai, Esper and perhaps Mardu control have to Tarmogoyf. In Legacy, it's a lightning rod for your opponent's FOW if dropped on T1/2.

I've specced into a large number of foils, off of SCG (currently sold out).

This is not a five dollar card, or a ten dollar card.

March 15, 2015 2:12 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #46

Man I wish I could pick up a few foils of this card, but I'm not sure $20 each is worth it. Especially since it looks like there are only two left.

March 15, 2015 2:32 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #47

ChiefBell if you are hesitant, i just put my money where my mouth is and bought 2 playsets

March 15, 2015 2:33 p.m.

slovakattack says... #48

julianjmoss: I just spent 200 bucks on 20 foils from SCG preorder at 10 bucks each. Fight me, brah.

March 15, 2015 2:38 p.m.

julianjmoss says... #49

slovakattack i sniped 2 promo ugins from your trade threads before they got too expensive so its all good.
