New Card - Myth Realised

Now obviously this card isn't game breaking but I think it's pretty great. It may be good in something like Delver, or perhaps UWR control.

In some ways it shares certain characteristics with Tarmogoyf:

  • They both cost ludicrously little mana to cast.

  • They both become threats naturally over time, as you play the game.

  • For the most part, they both are removed by spells that cost either the same, or more mana. Granting no immediate tempo advantage to the opponent.

However on the other hand; this card takes time to get big, and therefore it gives the opponent time to plan. It can be ruined by any 'return to hand' effect. It's also a bad top deck.

What do you guys think? Modern playable? T1, T1.5, T2? Or just bad?

Control cares a lot about midrange. Any deck that has individual threats that need to be countered or you lose, is a big deal. So with aggro, it relies on synergy and a lot of board presence. You play Anger of the Gods and it's GG. With midrange they don't need to commit as much. I've won game with one single Tarmogoyf which stuck to the board T2. The problem control can occasionally have with midrange is that every single thing needs to be countered or they run the risk of losing. Whereas with aggro, you're unlikely to lose to like..... a single Goblin Guide

I guess my experience of control vs midrange has been different. I'm usually running efficient removal myself, alongside board wipes and counter magic, I find midrange less of an issue. As a control player, letting a T2 Tarmogoyf win, just seems like someone playing a bad deck, but that's without any other information.

Guus don't forget about enchantress in legacy. They will eat this right up

Boza says... #4

yeaaah, no. Enchantress does not need this by any stretch of the imagination. It is nothing but a beat stick and you need the enchantments to do more.

This card's price should be dropping soon if anyone wants to buy in. Just announced its in an intro deck. Heres the intro decks

BOOO. IT'S IN AN INTRO DECK.

I just bought my playset too :C

I guess we'll never know if this was going to be a chase rare... but the fact that they put it in an intro deck speaks volumes about what Wizards thinks it will accomplish.

Sigh......

Well if it does well it'll be a long term investment, like Ensnaring Bridge was in an intro pack.

March 19, 2015 1:04 p.m.

vishnarg says... #10

That's a pretty far fetched comparison. This card is certainly not Ensnaring Bridge, and that was 10 years ago. The game is so different now and there's so many more players that cards from 8th edition are nowhere near what they cost now compared to when they were printed.

Didn't see that one coming. I'm glad I got foils, and not regular ones.

ChiefBell says... #12

Good. Hit around $3 where I am. I'll still go in for the long term investment though. I think it's at least fun and at most really good.

WovenNebula says... #13

@vishnarg I wasn't comparing cards abilities to each other and I should of put I meant the bridge from stronghold not 8th edition (where it was in an intro deck). I'm just simply saying it has a probability of being that type of long term investment, As it was a bulk rare most of its life.

Kitchen Table dudes will love this card to death, if nothing else.

I still maintain this card could be massive. It'll be printed to death though I think.

Well. My LGS has listed them 50 cents higher than normal. Me buying them out made them raise their prices higher than anywhere else

Now I'm just waiting for scg to lower their prices. TCG player is slowly dropping.

what do you think of it in r/w burn? as a three of hoping to drop it turn one or two? it can get huge by turn 3 or 4 and be a blocker for a w if you need it

March 23, 2015 8:01 p.m.

Jojja says... #18

Really, really bad in Burn. Unless a creature has haste, cmc1 or deals passive damage to your opponent you don't want it. Especially as you'll need to pay mana to activate it later inte the game. It's also a horrible topdeck as it lacks hast and any +1/+1 counters.

Shh I'm Meditating - I tried utilizing it in this list. It has worked fantastically for me. I love it's inclusion. It definitely needs the right deck to be worth running.

And so, looking back a month later, Myth was not the glorious powerhouse everybody thought it would be.

May 1, 2015 9:31 p.m.

Are you kidding??? It's played in almost every single modern control deck using white, and I've seen it in legacy countertop miracles.

vishnarg says... #23

I'm not kidding, it doesn't see play.

May 1, 2015 9:50 p.m.

...yeah, guess not. I have seen it in multiple legacy decks though, and I personally love it in Jeskai control decks, because they don't usually have one-drops (save Lightning Bolt, but you don't really use that on T1).

square711 says... #25

Give it time. It hasn't seen a lot of play in Modern because white control hasn't seen a lot of play in Modern. And the fact it hasn't become a tournament staple after a couple months doesn't necessarily mean it's not a powerhouse - just that it hasn't found the best shell for it yet, or that shell isn't too popular right now.

As far as I'm concerned, this still has value written all over it, and it's the best secondary wincon any control deck could ever wish for. I mean, I haven't come across a single person who tested this thing and was disappointed at the results.

Femme_Fatale says... #26

I have square711, and he was very adamant that it was a shit card. Apparently his entire meta thinks so.

Myth Realized needs to have at least 4 counters on it, which is a problem because it makes even control decks take a while to get benefit from it. Which means it is useless against Twin, Affinity and RDW, and prime target for Abzan to stock up on removal for it, particularly Abrupt Decay.

I've been having much more success in it in a Puresteel Paladin deck, because you don't have to wait that long to get value out of it, and Retract allows you to gain value even out of those that you top-deck.

May 2, 2015 12:23 a.m.

ChiefBell says... #27

I love the card but the problem is just that control isn't big in the meta. It's a little too slow. There's not much else to say.
