New to Modern - Deck Selection
Modern forum

Hi guys. I m new to modern and i want to build a fun and competitive deck that doesn t demand much money. I already have a Legacy Deck (UG Madness) and a Pauper Deck (Landfall) but i want a modern one to play tournaments in my small local store.
I hate combo decks, and dont like artifacts decks like Affinity or Toys. I was thinking of a competitve and cheaper control deck. Something fun, original and (why not?) risky to play with.
Have you any suggestion of a good deck to build so as to start looking for decklists?
Any comment will be well received! Thanks in Advance!

budget and competitive in modern are rarely found side by side. Though the mono blue tron suggestion its potentially the most budget friendly one. You could try an esper teachings build without the fetches since the tutoring can help make the lack of deck thinning less relevant, and who doesnt like casting Grave Titan

Soul Sisters (FNM Results 3-1) was my deck of choice when I started playing modern; I was able to buy the deck for less than $200 and it performed admirably at its first FNM on the 28th.

Thanks guys!! I search for all the decks posted here! I think Urzatron is a great deck, but it s not for me. I wanted something more funny to play. I really like Nox.LDs recommendation. Soul Sisters is an awesome deck! There are not many rares so it seems is a cheaper deck. I really like gaining life but is there any life gaining deck but with black too? I mean something like: You loose life i gain life deck for modern? Gain- Drain Deck? Thanks again all of you!

Well u can take Blood Artist + Thrull Parasite + Basilica Screecher + Crypt Ghast + Tribute to Hunger and have it the basis for ur Drain/Gain deck. Maybe throw in some enchantments, some removal, a fattie, & some swamp water & you'll have a super cheap modern deck
I agree that Soul Sisters (FNM Results 3-1) is a great deck.

The deck I run is pretty cheap, quite risky, and seems fun to me. If you mess with the land base a bit, you might be able to drop it under $100.

I tried Soul Sisters and it s really a great deck, but because of the monocolor it hans t response to many threats. I want a 2 color control deck that s fun to play. Naya Zoo? I have Naya Landfall in Pauper, it s a great deck, but as i already have naya i want something different in modern. Thanks again!

I just built Blue Urzatron. It's by far the cheapest Tron option, doesn't rely on combo, and is hard to beat at any time in the game due to early-game counterspells and late game Sundering Titans/Wurmcoil Engines.
You could build a good one for under $200.00.
