What kind of fast decks? Because to counter idfferent fast decks we need more information.

You mentioned Storm.

Is there also Burn (a deck that plays lots of cards like Lightning Bolt or Lava Spike)?

Is there Zoo (a deck that plays Wild Nacatl and Kird Ape)?

Please could you describe in a bit more detail.

I haven't come across a zoo deck yet but yes a lot of the decks in my meta play a lot of lightning bolt and lava spike

Mindcrank combo decks aren't perfect, because they take until turn 4 to win if you have both pieces and have the Bloodchief Ascension on turn 1 without missing a quest counter.

It would still be fun, but you would be unlikely to make deep runs in large tournaments.

What if you ran something with Kitchen Finks and Scavenging Ooze. It would be mediocrely expensive but pretty strong. A lot of lifegain in there to combat Lava Spike and stuff. You could have Feed the Clan in your sideboard.

Your win conditions could be things like Strangleroot Geist or Loxodon Smiter.

Could probably make a GW deck that combats Lightning Bolt etc really nicely for somewhere in the region of $100.

dritchie - So I think there are now two main questions for you to answer.

1) What do you enjoy playing? Which styles (control, combo, midrange, aggro, creature based, spell focused, etc). Which colours (like green the most or black or blue).

2) What is you actual budget in GBP or USD?

Once you've answered those we can work together to find something.

I've just looked at your profile and I would guess that your answers will be

1). Midrange in dimir colours.

2). Somewhere around 25 to 50 GBP or 40 to 85 USD.

I mainly like using dimir, but black is my go to colour and yes id say you where correct with the GBP or USD I do tend like to play control or aggro but I suppose Midrange can incorporate both of these tactics

Yeah midrange is a control deck that has a proactive gameplan. So you mix in counterspells and killspells with some nice cheap creatures.

How would you feel about playing Golgari ()? It's extremely powerful and can be done fairly cheap.

I'm happy playing Golgari where would you recommend I begin

Smother, Go for the Throat, Victim of Night, Abrupt Decay, Slaughter Pact, Maelstrom Pulse, Murderous Cut

Duress, Inquisition of Kozilek, Thoughtseize

Tarmogoyf, Scavenging Ooze, Putrid Leech, Bloodghast, Courser of Kruphix, Kitchen Finks, Eternal Witness, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Gurmag Angler, Strangleroot Geist, Grave Titan, Primeval Titan, Thragtusk, Thrun, the Last Troll, Obstinate Baloth

Liliana of the Veil, Garruk Relentless  Flip, Garruk Wildspeaker, Ob Nixilis Reignited

A mixture of solid removal spells and solid creatures backed up with some kind of planeswalker presence to allow you to churn out more removal (Liliana of the veil/Ob Nix) or more creatures (Garruk). Use targeted discard to attack the hand from turn one and follow up with more control to their board or solidify your position with cheap threats that can quickly end the game.

Choose cards as appropriate to taste and budget.

been looking at a few things how do you think dredge would work or should I just go big creatures

ChiefBell says... #13

Dredge requires Vengevine and Bloodghast to work to full effectiveness. 4 of each. Both are pricey.

If he stays within just / those two cards are the most expensive. There is also 8-Rack that you can splash green for Lotleth Troll and Scavenging Ooze. If you go that route Liliana of the Veil isn't necessary but you can work towards getting.

But in a general sense is good against aggression due to things like Feed the Clan and Kitchen Finks and stuff.

Well, If you like Golgari alot I can't really help ya there. I'm good at building quick aggro kill decks. However, I would recommend building either Mono Red Or Mono Red Goblins, they both kill very quickly. Also, they are almost always better than storm because they have consistent draws and don't require going off with cantrips. They both also can be made very budget. Here's my goblins decklist if you want some ideas. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-04-15-qlL-goblins/
