Oblivion stone in non-Tron decks?

Is Oblivion Stone even playable outside of Tron?

Discounting situations where you would want to activate it the turn it comes into play, would it still be good as a turn 5 board wipe for hard to deal with permanents?

Or in the same vein, Perilous Vault?

Is the consensus just that it's too mana intensive?

Well, it certainly has it's perks, but what would you use it against? Control players, always have a counter and (Although having hard to deal with planeswalkers) almost never have many nonland permanents. Aggro is very fast, and you would probably rather have a Damnation, Wrath of God, etc. They might be playable, but what would you use them for? I suppose tron?

Can be viable in mono black mainly for enchantment hate.
