Potentially powerful Modern cards?

Modern forum

So I was looking for a new Modern deck to get into and I figured, why not look at old well performing Standard decks? Standard has had many good ports to Modern in the past. I was wondering if any of you guys had something to say about the viability of these decks?

Some BGx deck with Deity of Scars since it dodges a lot of modern removal

Sunforger in a URW Geist shell

Ghost Dad (Tallowisp) aura toolbox shell

Deity of Scars is too expensive for Modern.

No idea on the other 2.

Sunforger is way too slow. Tallowisp could maybe work but it'd need a very specific deck.

To address Sunforger

3 mana to play, 3 mana to equip, 2 to activate. That's a total of 8 mana you just sank into it. In UWR you already have, Sphinx's Revelation , Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise and even before Khans you had metric tons of draw spells coupled with Snapcaster Mage. The mana investment can be spent doing way more productive things is all I'm trying to say.

As for the Aura toolbox thing. Do you have a sample list?

Deity of Scars is not too slow for Modern, but would need to be played in a Control list rather than the typical aggro/midrange list. Even then, Thragtusk is probably a better option if you want a 5-drop win con.

Deity of scars is an expensive and lesser Thrun, the Last Troll.

Sunforger needs 8 mana to do anything and there are no good targets for it anyways.

Tallowisp requires you to play additional cards that do terrible things for a little bit of card advantage (Glacial Ray is an expensive shock etc.)

None of these are efficient or effective in the turn 3.5 format that is modern (treasure cruise sped the format by half a turn for a couple of decks).

The best budget wincon for BG/x Creakwood Liege. In my opinion anyway. Bit vulnerable to bolt though.

What about Kavu Predator? It saw a lot of play in Time Spiral with Tarmogoyf, Fiery Justice, Grove of the Burnwillows, and Punishing Fire which I know is banned, but it still might be powerful.

Kavu Predator may be difficult to play with effectively. Mainly because you would be having to play a number of cards that give your opponent life... As there are a limited number of cards that give you sufficient benefit from this it would be hard to design. Also, you would need to ensure you can get the Kavu Predator in play early, and protect it... otherwise you're fighting un up-hill battle the whole time.

If you were to do it, I feel it would be Jund colors.

Ideas for cards would include:
Primal Command - Expensive, but fits the theme and gives you options.
Devour Flesh
Sorin Markov - Possibly expensive, but after they gain a ton of life, you drop them straight to 10.
Stigma Lasher - ?? possibly... to shut off life gain after you're setup...?
Rain of Gore - Turn all the life gain for your opponent into life loss... shuts off Kavu Predator, but probably worth it as it's a strong win-con. Grove of the Burnwillows - of course...

I like Essence Warden with Creakwood Liege. Great fun.

I think Kavu is a good card for burn to SB in and good for other decks to use vs sisters
