Speculation? I'm not great with modern but I'd love to see this be good again.

NonetheWeisser you noted on your created thread that this card might strengthen Murktide decks, and it possibly will, but not by enough imo. That deck has fallen very, very far out of favourability since the LotR release, and I don’t see Preordain doing enough to save it. As far as struggling decks, it probably boosts stuff like Deaths Shadow decks significantly more.

Turns out reinforcing Murktide is a stated goal of the unban.
"This is also part of a goal to give something back to Blue-Red Murktide, which was one of the most popular decks in the Modern metagame between the release of Modern Horizons 2 and The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth but has since fallen out of favor in part due to the release of Orcish Bowmasters."

There are several other cards on the ban list that would support Izzet Murktide more, but I suspect they're being cautious. I'm getting the sense that this is a trial run for a large(r)-scale unbanning. I don't have anything to back that up, it just wouldn't surprise me if they start unbanning some of the less offensive cards more regularly going forward. (Rest well, Golgari Grave-Troll, Deathrite Shaman, Dread Return, and Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis. Your new life will come eventually.)

fnm last week i ran burn and lost in game 3 when murktide was at 1, he preordained 3 times and powered out a massive fast dragon. he ran 3 consider, 2 expressive 3 preordain and it sped the deck up real well

My thoughts are that it’ll improve Underworld Breach decks and give some combo decks marginal improvements, but overall is going to be vastly overshadowed by the Ring and Bowmasters influence over the format
