I suppose I'll call this the official PT FRF discussion thread for Modern.

Go!

GlistenerAgent says... #2

xzzane Cifka's playing tokens on camera as of now.

February 6, 2015 3:06 p.m.

bananamaniaman says... #3

Where can I watch it online?

February 6, 2015 3:08 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #4

Of note, Cifka is playing both Bitterblossom AND Sorin, Solemn Visitor.

February 6, 2015 3:11 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #5

It's ok. Pros make mistakes too!

February 6, 2015 3:20 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #6

(we're all human)

February 6, 2015 3:20 p.m.

GlistenerAgent says... #7

I suppose they expected generally aggressive decks? Seems like a good plan.

Yeh, his own takes on the deck are interesting.

February 6, 2015 3:22 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #8

The decks I've seen on camera were a burn mirror match, Twin vs Elves, Abzan mirror, Abzan vs WB tokens (right now), affinity vs esper tokens (?), and infect vs Twin. So the meta seems quite aggressive right now.

February 6, 2015 3:26 p.m.

GlistenerAgent says... #9

It's Esper Delve. 4 Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Stubborn Denial and even Gurmag Angler.

February 6, 2015 3:28 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #10

That makes a lot more sense why the Rest in Peace is in play. But I would not have thought Esper Delve would be a deck to watch. But I guess Tasigur and Gurmag Angler have quite large posteriors.

February 6, 2015 3:31 p.m.

It really wasn't. They just went nuts. :)

February 6, 2015 3:33 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #12

Havent seen any tron lists yet, but combo elves is a thing apparently.

February 6, 2015 3:35 p.m.

So apparently some of the CFB guys are on Infect. Very happy. :)

February 6, 2015 4:18 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #14

GlistenerAgent Ya, I saw that as well, but there is some burn, so i'm happy.

February 6, 2015 4:24 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #15

GlistenerAgent - I saw Owen Turtenwald on Infect. And I think we all saw Shahar Shenhar on what looked like 4-color Burn.

February 6, 2015 4:46 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #16

Hold on, Andrew Cuneo is on INFECT? I thought he was a control player? Well, I guess this shows his range.

February 6, 2015 4:53 p.m.

xzzane says... #17

Damn, I completely missed it. I have no clue why a pro player is using blossom and sorin though. Smh. I can't believe I missed that though...Thanks for the tag anyway, glistener.

February 6, 2015 5:04 p.m.

JexInfinite says... #18

Unfortunately, I missed all the fun because it happened during my sleep time, but I can safely assume nobody is playing Soul Sisters. Tron is far too much of a threat to consider it. However, if Tron isn't suited to this meta, people are going to get more into tokens. (Good!)

February 6, 2015 5:29 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #19

I'd be willing to bet sorin is there for to lifelink but can't be sure

February 6, 2015 5:43 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #20

Sorin would be for lifelink because we're all betting on zoo / affinity etc. I like Junk but am far more interested in Golgari rock because it's just spicier.

February 6, 2015 5:46 p.m.

swkelly89 says... #21

wow...Humble Defector haha

February 6, 2015 5:47 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #22

I'm in bed but wait what? People are ACTUALLY playing defector?

February 6, 2015 5:52 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #23

Humble Defector for next ban. Defecting Humbling too stronk

February 6, 2015 5:52 p.m.

swkelly89 says... #24

Mihara was main boarding a playset of defector. even got in some damage with it lol

February 6, 2015 6:02 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #25

Mihara is also running a Grixis Twin deck. Playing Black for Inquisition of Kozilek and I didn't see anything else that had Black in it.

February 6, 2015 6:07 p.m.

I'd guess he's playing Tasigur, he also has Thoughtseize in his deck.

February 6, 2015 6:38 p.m.

The big thing about Mihara is he is running Humble Defector. Saw that dude tap to draw two, untap it with a Pestermite and tap to draw two more. Talk about value town USA.

February 6, 2015 7:07 p.m.

JexInfinite says... #28

Everyone buy bulk playsets of Humble Defector.

ChiefBell We haven't seen enough Phyrexian Obliterator yet.

February 6, 2015 8:01 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #29

Mihara is a genius. I think I will buy some foiled Defectors because this is way to spicy.

Timely Reinforcements maindeck in tokens? Seems like the creature side would be hard to enable.

February 7, 2015 7:31 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #30

Oh yeah, invest in all of the spicy cards being played. Especially in very convincing players' decks, like the current Top 25.

February 7, 2015 8:05 a.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #31

That Synergy is amazing, Playing him Turn 2 means you can get 4 cards deep for the Twin or Land if you have a Pester or Exarch.

February 7, 2015 8:13 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #32

Everyone buy Infect decks quickly. If Austin makes Top 8, the deck will REALLY go up in value.

February 7, 2015 6:26 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #33

I dont want to use phone's data.

Who is poised to make Top 8?

February 7, 2015 6:31 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #34

That game was awesome!

February 7, 2015 6:34 p.m.

Eric Froehlich, Antoni Del Moral Leon, Jelger Wiegersma, Seth Manfield, Jacob Wilson and Lee Shi Tian are locked for Top 8.

Austin Bursavich vs. Justin Cohen and Sam Black vs. Jesse Hampton each determine one of the last two slots.

February 7, 2015 6:35 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #36

What decks are they on?

February 7, 2015 6:36 p.m.

@quesobueno123

It really was. Slight misplay by Austin however: He fetched an untapped Breeding Pool on turn 3 to leave up Spell Pierce for Amulet of Vigor, taking away Groundswell as an out to win the game on his next turn because he didn't have a land in hand.

February 7, 2015 6:37 p.m.

Froehlich and Wilson are on different versions of Abzan, Wiegersma is on UR Twin, Manfield and Tian are on Burn, and I'm not sure about Moral Leon (possibly Shift).

February 7, 2015 6:37 p.m.

Additionally, Black and Cohen are on Bloom while Bursavich is on Infect and Hampton is on Abzan.

February 7, 2015 6:39 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #40

So no Makito Mihara?

February 7, 2015 6:43 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #41

Yeah! Burn for the win.

February 7, 2015 6:43 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #42

Don't interpret this as a stab at Burn players, But is it actually engaging and fun to play?

February 7, 2015 7 p.m.

JexInfinite says... #43

I know that Lee Shi Tian understands how to choose a deck suited for the metagame, but there aren't really any players using something they know so incredibly well like they did Pod. Dickmann was still on Twin, McLaren and Hayne were on control, but a lot of people chose completely different decks than what they were used to.

February 7, 2015 7:01 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #44

I love playing burn. I have tried pod, junk, grixis, twin, tron, affinity, and burn which is by far my favorite one of the decks.

February 7, 2015 7:07 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #45

Why do you enjoy it?

Again not being a hater just curious.

February 7, 2015 7:14 p.m.

quesobueno123 says... #46

When I play burn, I just have more fun. The combination of short games (gives you time to hang out and trade during FNM), the great moments I have had playing the deck, and the competitiveness of the deck make the deck absurdly fun to play for me.

February 7, 2015 7:21 p.m.

bijschjdbcd says... #47

Ok makes sense, The games I have played against Burn just havent been entertaining.

February 7, 2015 7:23 p.m.

Anyone notice the impact Tasigur, the Golden Fang made?

February 7, 2015 8:30 p.m.

Hey, so I just realized that the CFB Infect deck had maindeck Spellskite.

I knew I was onto something.

February 7, 2015 8:52 p.m.

Burn was one of the obvious meta leaders, seems like a good meta call.
