Is there a way to repeatedly prevent combat damage from being dealt to Gideon Jura (without putting something on an Isochron Scepter ) in Modern
Yes.
Have Mycosynth Lattice and March of the Machines out in the battlefield with Gideon Jura . Gideon is now a 5/5 artifact creature all the time.
Enchant Gideon with Ghostly Possession .
+2 forever and win.

I'd love Elite Arcanist if it wasn't for the fact that it's nothing more than a watered down wanna be version of the scepter. Still it has its uses just not in this deck.

Be careful putting Mycosynth Lattice and March of the Machines out unless you don't like lands.

Palisade Giant with Ghostly Possession
....little expensive, but would work.
Perhaps there's a better option than Palisade Giant ... I'm not that familiar with Modern card choices.

In modern, just because its cheaper, id g with Cho-Manno, Revolutionary and Pariah

there is always Guardian of the Gateless for perfect blocking, and you could just run a large pile of Fog and similar. Not sure how effective turbofog would be in the end though.

Pariah combo wouldn't work since the damage is being dealt to Gideon not me

Also, any Aura attached to Gideon would simply fall off when he reverts back to a Planeswalker, based on the first two words of Ghostly Possession 's rules text.

@zandi: That begs another question, if Gideon is permanently made into a creature will he still be able to be attacked directly or have damaging abilities that can only target a player redirected at him?

I think all current cards that turn things into creatures also leave them with their other card types. So anything that permanently turns Gidon into a creature will also leave him a planeswalker, meaning he can be attacked.

Well, really, Isochron Scepter with Angel's Grace will just win you the game 75% of the time. Beyond that, you're just going to be using up finite resources each turn.
You could try the new Elite Arcanist , but you honestly can't expect that to work, can you?
