Scavenging Ooze in modern
Modern forum

I'm curious about how this card will affect modern, competing with bob, snapcaster, and tamogoyf for the 2 drop slot. I see it really shining in Melira Pod however. Thoughts?

i think that it will affect the format a lot, it is just so good, it will probably make it's way into every single green deck that it out there. same with standard.

also, i think that graveyard themed deck are going to be screwed to hell because of the ooze. it has the potential to get big really quickly, it can slow down agro somewhat, and what i said below, all for 2 mana.

It will certainly be an interesting few months following M14's release. SCG preemptively dropped Scavenging Ooze 's price from $40 to $20, but I think they're actually calling it wrong. There will be two extra formats after this card, and the demand in those first couple weeks will be high. The only reason the price won't skyrocket as it might with a new card is because some Scavenging Ooze s are already available. I think it still has the potential to climb again.
Like Deathrite Shaman , Scavenging Ooze is a Modern-playable answer to graveyard strategies and Tarmogoyf . However, it's also a 2-drop, which means players have to make a difficult choice about where to put it. There are a lot of important 2-drops in Modern. I don't know the format well enough to say that Scavenging Ooze is an auto-include in certain lists, especially when Tarmogoyf is one of the go-to cards for that slot.

i think that you are right that it is like Deathrite Shaman although it shuts of 2 of the most important creatures in modern, (unless i am mistaken) that is pretty good. i can see people running BOTH Tarmogoyf and Scavenging Ooze as 2-2 or 3-1 or 1-3 just for the flexibility, but still being used. overall, i think that Scavenging Ooze might not be an AUTO-INCLUDE but close to it that it will see medium amounts of play.

I don't think players will split the counts on Tarmogoyf and Scavenging Ooze , but they may play Scavenging Ooze as a low-count support card.

Modern is my main format, and I can say with about 98% certainty, that it will see play in 91.7% of decks, provided they run green, and some might even splash for it. It won't REALLY compete with Bob. I mean, Bob will still be in there. I think Scavenging Ooze will ALSO be in there.
For instance, Jund runs Bobs and Tarmogoyf s, and some lists run Putrid Leech . My point is, that often, people will be willing to add some in there, ESPECIALLY considering Jund's mana curve. Some lists don't even run a 4 drop Mainboard.
As for melira pod, Scavenging Ooze might be seen as a 1 of, and no more thana 2 of. This is primarily because Birthing Pod is going to want to search for the Melira, Sylvok Outcast , and it is a combo deck. Also, the reason I think it will be a 1 of, is that with Pod, you can run lots of Silver Bullets.
Then again, everything I just said might be wrong, so...

I could see the Ooze as a 1x of in decks that run green, but more than likely a few in the sideboard also.
