Shambling Vent in Modern

Shambling Vent, despite its weak appearance, is starting to show up in Modern Abzan lists. Is it the real deal or are we just seeing "new card syndrome"?

I don't think it's good in modern. It doesn't pass the bolt test, and Abzan already has Vault of the Archangel for lifegain, and Stirring Wildwood for a better manland.

I'm meh on it. I will say I'm more impressed with lumbering falls in modern than I am with shambling vent.

I think it's good enough. It's definitely one of the better manlands. Only question is, is it really better as a late game utility land than Vault of the Archangel? Probably not.

Abzan doesn't always run Vault of the Archangel and this card taps for B or W rather than colorless. Vault requires you to have creatures, Vent becomes one. I just don't think they are that similar. It is similar to Treetop Village though. Which also doesn't pass the bolt test but still shows up in Abzan lists. Not arguing for Vents though, just drawing parallels

Its is far and away better than Lavaclaw Reaches in the Dega midrange I run, perhaps not as good as options in other colors but the best available to me. Helps offset Bob to boot.

As of right now it's only appearing in a small percentage of decks. Only about 1/3 of Junk decks are actually running it, and only as a 2 of. I feel like this is just people testing the water to see if it is playable in modern. If it does work, cool. If it doesn't work, oh well. You'll never be able to truly figure these things out without actual competitive play testing, which is all that's really happening with Shambling Vent right now.
