Playability of Shorecrasher Elemental in modern merfolk? It's pretty gross preceding a Master of Waves, but outside of that I don't see much application. I could be wrong though, it protects itself well. Discuss.

Uh... if it was a merfolk. Otherwise seems lackluster.

No way. I mean, look at him. He needs three blue mana, is not a merfolk, needs MORE mana to be useful... Part of what makes modern Merfolk so good is that they smack down AEther Vial quickly, get creatures out with that, and use the rest for counterspells. Ignoring the fact that there are better three-drops in Merfolk, this guy uses the mana that would normally be used for counterspells for himself. I mean, even Master of Waves doesn't see much modern merfolk play (I think), so...

Master of Waves does, but this card wont. As mentioned, a 3/3 isn't the most exciting thing, even if you are Vialing it in. Three mana should get you a Lord (or Kira), and this card requires too much mana to be close to as good as those cards are.

I mean there isnt really a reason you can't play devotion in modern; you have Cyclonic Rift, Vendilion Clique Vapor Snare, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir Kira, the Great Glass-Spinner and Academy Ruins + Mindslaver lock it is quite possible to play this card in modern without playing merfolk

Vapor Snag excuse me

cxseals1337 Devotion is way to slow for modern play. For casual it's really fun (take it from me) but for modern it gets outraced too easily.

FAMOUSWATERMELON I am aware of how fast modern is; devotion is a fringe deck to be sure in modern but they are to be considered with cards like Master of Waves floating around and are not out of the question to be reasonable decks in modern. A devotion deck probably has as power behind it as merfolk if not more seeing as merfolk is in itself a fringe deck in competitive play.

If I wanted a 3/3 in a vial deck, it would be Serra Avenger. This is not Serra Avenger, so it is bad.
