Should I finish my modern deck?

I really want to play Modern. I have many friends that play it, and i want to join in on the fun. Here is my dilema: I am unable to attend Modern Night at either of my to Local Game Stores. so is it worth it to make the deck if I will never be able to really use it semi-competitively?

Modern is a fantastic format both casual and competitive. I love playing with my friends but honestly the big draw in modern is competitive play. I'd say go for it. I've never regretted building mine.

If you can't play competitive, then no. Modern is used for competitive games. The matches are often fast, so you wont have a ton of fun playing it casually. Besides, it's very expensive to build, only to play it casually.

Build some commander decks instead, and ask your friends if they don't want to join the fun!

Yeah, Commander is like the format for people who can only play sparingly, like myself. Also the most fun, but that's entirely my own personal preference.

I think you should slowly invest into modern staples, like lands and good all around cards like snaps, skites, bobs, etc. until you can play. I'd start with lands, like khans fetches, and then depending on your playstyle and what deck you want, buy cards for that deck. Also, a deck that has good cards that can go in other decks is a better starting deck than say merfolk or infect or ad naseum.

What I've noticed is modern is really only fun when you can play with the tier 1 decks, and budget decks can't competitively play nearly as well as a full list. So slowly build to a list, and play the complete version. But I am more spikey then I believe I am, so...

Yeah my advice is also build slowly. I build my bogles deck over the period of a year through slow trading and buying a cheap playset hear and there.

I don't know about playing with a full list. I played with a sub optimal B/W tokens deck for close to a year before finishing it and still had fun. I also managed to win quite a few games too. Now I'm shifting it to a blossom build and am so glad I didn't have to spend 200$ on liliana of the veils. Honestly I'd say play with whatever parts of the deck you can muster because it lets you learn the ins and outs of your deck and gives you invaluable information about how to play against other decks.

The_Raven Really? Maybe it's just me but EDH feels entirely too random. By that I mean random chance.

CheeseBro If you only play casually, maybe they'll be OK with you using proxies for the most expensive cards? It's hard to justify the cost of Modern if you're scarcely splaying, and even then only casually.
