So Amulet of Vigor Combo just took down the SCG Modern Premier IQ....

WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW!?

But seriously. I'm assuming that there will be a niche group of players on this combo next weekend on PTFRF.

Notably there were also 2 Dredge decks in the top 15 and metric tonne of Burn.

Burn always does well when people are playtesting new ideas. I'm excited to see that Dredge was placing well, it's a fun deck.

Bloom Titan is a really well positioned deck right now. At least until faster combo decks or some control decks start becoming popular.

I should note that there was 0 b/g/x in the top 16, but there was one Nyxathid B/R Rack deck complete with Lightning Bolts, Blightnings and a couple Terminates and zero (0) Shrieking Afflictions. So, does that make it B/R 4 Rack?

I should probably tag Ohthenoises since it's one of his pet decks. And... ChiefBell solely for the lulz.

That top 16 is VERY aggressive. The only control deck was Jeskai, and the only true combo deck is Amulet? I have a feeling the midrange decks are going to have a field day at the PT if this is the expected metagame.

Can we just talk about the death and taxes deck that played Akroma, Angel of Fury and could only flip it via Flickerwisp or play it via AEther Vial

julianjmoss says... #8

and Restoration Angel i guess, its still weird

That's the sort of ballsy nonsense I love to see.

fluffybunnypants this is not one of my pet decks. U Tron is.

February 1, 2015 10:52 p.m.

That whole event was a flash in the pan. Abzan, Scapeshift and Twin made no showing, and I'd consider this a wonky local metagame rather than something to be seriously considered.

I lost to Amulet of Vigor in the top 8 at FNM this week. It was a crazy deck to play against. One of the games he got me with a turn 2 hivemind.

New wizards announcement "amulet of vigor is banned! Our reasoning behind this is that with each new set more cool cards can come in untapped with the amulet and its just destroying the format, now we just wait and see what other interesting decks you guys can make for us to slam the banhammer on"

Such facetious.

I actually understand the ban and I'm not mad at wizards in any way,it just sucks that it got banned literally 2 days after finishing my pod Deck but that's my fault I suppose. Anyways this amulet deck has had my attention for quite a while,it just seems fun.

julianjmoss: D&T has actually been playing Akroma for some time now. It's not a particularly new thing.

What a weird event. The rack deck was the worse form of rack as well. And yeh..... very aggro. Oh well. We all know BG/x is a decent deck so I'm not mad. It's just a peculiar top 16.

JexInfinite says... #21

It's a weird top 16 when people are playing bad decks. coughrememberTreefolkcough

That meta is all tier 2 decks, it's no wonder the real decks Molly whopped it.

February 2, 2015 5:06 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #24

It's slightly refreshing not seeing Pod win yet again, but when the majority of an even is with T2 decks, it gets really silly. The strategic purpose of T2 decks is that they can often prey upon popular T1 decks. Therefore, the absence of a good amount of T1 decks made the meta super weird and vulnerable to fast combo.

Everyone seemed to be playing aggro, and since aggro > aggro, we ended up with quite literally all aggro.

@ Ohthenoises

You've been pimping out The Devil's Modern Deck recently.

That red white burn list was awful. Chandra??

February 2, 2015 7:58 a.m.

Awful is a bit strong.

February 2, 2015 8:13 a.m.

Nah, his deck was real bad.

February 2, 2015 9:13 a.m.

quesobueno123 says... #30

Also he only ran 2 eidolon and played pillar of flame.

February 2, 2015 9:18 a.m.

quesobueno123 says... #31

The mono-red one was the only good one.

February 2, 2015 9:23 a.m.

By all means, it was bad, but it's not like he was running Lightning Strike.

February 2, 2015 9:46 a.m.

slovakattack says... #33

Dafuq is up with that burn deck...

February 2, 2015 10:11 a.m.
