So the meta's healthy right?

I posted this thread basically saying that we have a major problem with modern right now in that the banning of pod just left a void that would hastily be filled by abzan. My concern was basically that we've gone from one deck being overly represented in every event to quite another.
Here's a breakdown of the decks present in the pro tour. Guess how represented Abzan is - go on guess, I dare you!

30%. Thirty per cent. 30!
Needless to say I am slightly concerned.

Hey! I get things wrong. Sometimes it takes me time to pick new things up.

Currently playing EDH 1v1, TL and a bit of Standard on the side. Been meaning to get into Modern for a while now. Is this a good time, or should I wait after the shakeup?
February 10, 2015 3:34 p.m.
Wait. For two reasons: 1) no ones sure which decks are good and which aren't yet - it's very uncertain and 2) prices are rising due to it being competitive season and people are shifting decks due to the banning. If you could wait 6 months you'll find the environment a lot more forgiving.

Or if you don't mind, you could easily build a tier 2-3 deck with some budget replacements such as a mono red burn or mono green infect for under 100$ and just play that until things quiet down and it's a better time to spend on a serious deck. You get to play, and you'll start facing down modern decks, see how they tick, and get a better idea of what you may want to build in the process.

Actually, we are working on a budget set to add to ChiefBell's modern primer. Ways to start in an archetype and get the feel for it.

Well my transition was UW Control in Rav Standard, UW Control in Modern investing in Colonnades, Paths etx and than finally into a UWR Shell minus V Cliques and then purchased those once I had established myself in the Archetype.

Yeah, RTR was a good time to get into Modern. Wholesale staples.

Very true, Still not to late to pick up shocks before they increase.

ChiefBell, I would not advise getting into modern in 6 months. Why? Modern Masters. Last time MMA came out, there was a huge boom in modern, and all of the staples jumped in price, limiting accessibility to the format.
Also, best budget modern deck = Eggs.

great point, totally forgot about MM2. guess I'll wait 'til then, hopefully prices of the Modern commons/uncommons drop.

Grab KTK fetches and RTR/Innistrad modern staples wherever and whenever you can trade for them, as they'll only be going upwards once they rotate, and wait on the rest until' after MM2.
Also, don't fall into the trap of building a budget deck for budget reasons, instead proxy/build a proper deck with budget alternatives, as most of the budget decks (U Tron, Infect, RDW) are quite niche and might not suit your tastes.
Or just play for free on xmage, fuck me, right?

I enjoy getting a feel for the meta, I play Twin and Control, But I have been playing around with Amulet amd Junk to get a different angle on the matchup, I test these on Untap.

How good is Untap? Is it easy to use, and what's the community like? What about Xmage? I know Cockatrice is supposed to be pretty good, except that I'm told it's full of douchebags. [citation needed]

Xmage is amazing par the server stability, and it's been getting better and better.
Give it a try over at xmage.info. (fyi, Cockatrice is a "sandbox", it doesn't enforce rules, Xmage enforces rules like MTGO (and sometimes better, for that matter)).

I knew Xmage did that, but I'm surprised that it works that well. I'll have to try that.

I think I realised how to use Tasigar alongside Scooze to force the opponent to give you what you want. It's good.
