So....Ninja Bear Delver?

Modern forum

Posted on Jan. 27, 2015, 12:54 p.m. by capriom85

Saw an article saying that this is going to be a thing in Modern now that Cruise and Pod decks are not a driving force. I don't have a list to directly link, but he gist of the build is:

18x Island & 2x Mutavault for the land base.

Throw together UR delver without the R: Serum Visions, Gitaxian Probe, Vapor Snag, Mana Leak, Spell Snare, etc.

Standard creature base you would imagine: Delver of Secrets  Flip, Snapcaster Mage

here comes the twist: this little guy boasts Cryptic Command, Ninja of the Deep Hours, and Phantasmal Bear.

I guess the idea here is the Cantrips and Ninja keep filling your hand a little at a time to make up for the loss of Cruise while eeking out the victory with aggro type damage.

Anything think this will be a thing?

No. Travis who is a horrible deck builder and almost as a bad of a player. Take anything he uploads with a grain of salt.

NBD was always Tier 2 or lower. Being mono-blue does you no favors with regards to sideboarding.

Travis Woo is a bad MTG deck builder + player...which is why he is paid money to do those very things...sees legit

Onto the real subject here. I agree with agent here. It's better to keep the tempo rather than try to be aggressive

Something I saw on trice though that worked really well : Jeskai Sage I think it's worth investigating

i really like these woo brews, but mono U delver isnt all that exciting. due to the banning of treasure cruise i splashed black in my ur delver deck and added Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Inquisition of Kozilek, plus some SB tech

xlaleclx says... #9

That's exactly what he did. He does that with most of the decks he uploads.
He stole his affinity pod deck from Bahra who was streaming it a few days before Twoo claimed to have made the deck.
He's most well known for making living end even though there were decklists going around the internet from lots of different sources before he claimed to have made the deck.

What are you even talking about? What does anything I said have to do with reddit?
Why don't you learn something about the topic before you try starting arguments.

VampireArmy says... #13

Dude he gets these sort of thing all the time. He had a post about it on facebook a while ago though it might have been removed. Not sure but either way I can't find it. The point being, he knows that his brews are usually adaptations of other deck styles. He also often states that whenever he talks about a new deck. Reddit is the cespool of random wild accusations about "stealing" deck ideas. The argument is as about as retarded as the chicken or the egg question.

Claiming a pro player to be "bad" is plain stupid and using your line of thought is even more stupid but hey believe what you want, i've seen how you argue and I already know nothing good will come of even trying to talk to you so have a good one

Travis' Post :

lol wut u think about this threadhttp://forum.nogoblinsallowed.com/viewtopic.php

From the words of someone on the thread (found it)

" I don't think Travis Woo usually comes up with ideas that are completely unthought of before. I've found him using ideas that I've thought about in the past when he builds his decks. When brewing in magic people often just end up making the same deck as other people, it's completely ludicrous to accuse others of stealing your idea unless you know that they visited your page, and copied your list. Even then, you should feel flattered not robbed.

The actual guy with the deck seems pretty chill about it all. I think deck stealing is an overused ignorant hate term in magic the gathering. IT's like net decking, people accuse my friends of net decking when really they came up with their birthing pod deck on their own, it just happens to have all the same stock cards as standard list. If your deck idea has been though of before should you not use it?

Deckbuilding is a unique form of art and people have the right to build whatever deck they desire, regardless if they read about the idea in an article or thought of it off the top of their head.

I don't mean to be all serious and stuff. I just think it's important that people understand that when they accuse people of deck stealing and net decking they are wasting their own time and the time of others. Magic: The Gathering should be a friendly competitive experience.

I'll go ahead and end by "stealing" an inspirational phrase constantly said by Travis Woo, "Much love"."

Hey guys, if neither of you directly pay travis woo, I don't really think it matters, and this little bickerfest is pointless.

Just sayin.

In regards to the OP, Ninja bear delver is a bad deck. Just play UR delver.

Not all of his decks are bad. You already mentioned Living End, I feel like that deck is his niche anyhow. Sort of like Ried Duke and his Jund Decks.

Another deck that he hooked it up with (and it was damn good) was his Dredgevine deck. Goddamn, put some hot sauce on that piece. I won a few open trials and TCG player events with it.

I dont think he steals deck lists, that sounds ridiculous.

I also feel like *most of the decks that are posted on any website (sales with pro players) use their positions as pros to lead people astray. Case in point: just about a year ago, every one was on BG constellation in standard. SCG told everyone that the deck was the truth, and you were retarded to not play it. So we go to an Elite IQ, and my friend is on that tech.

He lost every.Single. Round. Not because he was a bad player, I have seen him trump people all over the state. It was because the deck naturally sucked. And I feel like SCG knew it. How many of those players (Like BBD and CVM and others at that camp) ran BG constellation within the next few weeks? Absolutely none. Thats right.

TL;DR Don't trust decklists from pros, especially near a larger tournament. You will lose. Ninja Bear Delver is not that good. And Travis Woo actually is a decent player/deckbuilder.

capriom85 - Ninja bear delver is old as shit! People have been palying it at my lgs for years.

Honestly this isnt supposed to be competitive. This is supposed to be fun. Stop bashing Travis Woo for making enjoyable rogue builds just because they dont top 8. Boo fucking hoo. It's a great deck albeit not a tournament winner.

I am newer to Modern and was unaware that Ninja bear Delver was a thing. I saw an article article nd thought I'd ask. I am article nd BW Tokens guy in Modern so it doesn't effect me much unless it would be a thing to SB against.

It's annoying when he outright says he created the deck on his own frequently when he found it online.

He also went on a rant a while back on Twitch about how fat people aren't human beings and don't deserve to have the same rights as humans until they get in shape. He permanently banned everyone in his chat who said anything was wrong with what he was saying.

This is why I would never want to be in a position where I am famous enough to have legions of message boards critiquing my every action but not busy enough or aloof enough to ignore them.
